Since I`ve purchased my H/C package from TSP, (PP Stage II LS6/LQ9`s & TSP 229R) I`ve been keeping my eye on posts pertaining to the TSP 228R cam. And it seems like the few I`ve seen the people were for the most part disappointed with there Dyno #`s. I myself have not finished my H/C install yet so I have no Dyno #`s to share. And to be quite honest, I could care less about Dyno results. ET`s are more important to me. But, with the majority of posts being somewhat negative, I am getting slightly nervous. I am however pretty sure that Trevor`s (TSP) car ran pretty well with the 228R. I don`t want to steal this thread but maybe we can generate a few more posts/opinions of members using this cam and give him some tips towards finding some more HP on the Dyno?

I'm pretty happy with my TSP 228R.. I ran at the track for the first time ever in my life a couple weeks ago and got a 7.57 @ 91.43 on a crappy 1.73 60' in a 3800+ car with me and the iron block in it.. The car has more in it, I just need to learn how to drive at the track.. I can't wait to get my SDPC heads on.. My cam specs are 228/228 .588/.588 111 +2 stock.. We added +2 more advance for a total of +4 when the dyno runs were made.. I've since retarded the cam -4, so its at 0*.. The car pulls harder and longer.. The dyno was also made with 3.73s and heavy ZR1s..

The 228R is a great camshaft. This is the second camshaft that we tried in my '02 SS A4. I ran this cam with stock cylinder heads, a 4,400 RPM stall torque converter, long tubes, off-road y-pipe, and all of the other normal bolt-ons. It picked up 8 RWHP over the 224R cam and put down 369 RWHP through an unlocked converter. It managed 388 RWHP locked up, and these runs were through 3.73:1 gears. The best the car ran was at the Southern Shootout in 2002. The car ran an 11.41 @ 116.85 MPH on a 1.53 60' with a raceweight of 3,526#.

The camshaft does make some great power. I, too, don't recommend relying solely on dyno numbers. That's only one part of the equation. We always like to see track times to go with dyno figures. I had a lot of people doubt my car when I told them that it only put down 369 RWHP. It's all about the overall setup, and dynos won't show a car's ability to 60', shift extensions, etc. Just look at torque converters. The right one can make you lose power on the dyno and reduce your ET at the track by up to .8. Talk about deceiving!

Let me know if you have any questions.

I am happy with mine as well. This is pretty much the lowest Dyno I have for mine.. I would like to bring my curve down about 200 RPM.. Got any suggestions Trevor? Advance, retard maybe? Mods in Sig. I've run a best of 7.3x N/A .. and my car is a heavy pig especially with my 275lb a$$ in it

Oh and here is the flow sheet for my heads, and that is with the stock size intake valve:

I am not really dissappointed with the #'s I got. The track opens in 2 weeks and I am thinking of finally going on the Funday. I did mess around with street tires last month at a different track and trapped lower than with just a hotcam and a catback(2.0x) short time also)...I am thinking I will be very dissappointed in 2 weeks if I don't trap 117+. FYI, I trapped 110.56 with a hot cam, loudmouth, lid on street tires with a 2.02 short time making 327RWHP...mods in my sig is where I am at now.
I plan on building a forged short block by years end, so I will stick with that I have for now.

W/A HOTCAM u were only trapping 110?? what was the altitude? U up in the damn rockies or something? I was trapping 111-113 w/converter and drag radials w/easy weight reduction (IE Backseats, tire/spare) You "Should" be up in the low 120's w/the set up u have... w/my h/c setup I was trapping 123-127 depending on weight....

94form2000Z - There are a few ways to bring your curve down. You could try advancing the camshaft another two degrees, but be sure to check your p-to-v clearance. With your cam already being on a 111 LSA, It could get tight pretty quick on the intake side. 7.30's in the 1/8th are doing well, especially for a heavy car!

HeritageLS1 - Was the 327 RWHP with the Hot Cam through the stock exhaust? Even for stock manifolds and cats, that still seems pretty low. While there are quite a few different things that go into how well a car MPH's, you should easily be able to trap 117+. Let us know how the track day goes.

Trevor I hope it's not a 111LSA My cam was the 109ICL +3* Advance... Anyways I am running the 5.3l heads with no mill. Think I can get away with 2 more degrees of advance? Also do you do custom grinds? I'd like to speak to some of you vendors and see what you can come up with for another cam shaft for me. Something like 236/240 57x/57x ?LSA. I'd like to drop the lift of my valvetrain and get some duration in there. Reason for drop in lift is the non limited flow of the heads around .550. <--- Flow sheet above in other post. Email me if you think you can come up with something. j.r.smith@verizon.com
Or tell me it won't work and maybe why it would be detrimental
