Default What do I need to do to get in the 12's

I have run this car a few times at The strip here in Las Vegas(15 passes). The best I have done is a 13.6 @108 with a 2.3 60ft. The car is a M6 with 3.42 and street tires. The bird was dynoed at 385 at the wheels. I dont do a burnout as I cannot manipulate the clutch, brake and gas peddle at the same time(rookie). It has Subframes, but the rest of the suspension is stock. What should I do to get me in the 12's!

If your on the stock clutch you can afford to slip it some to get that 60 foot down. im on the same set up as you right now. im cutting 2.0 60's but my last time was 13.08 @ 109. Your not far away just make sure you are not wheel hoping. soon as that happens your rear will go real fast. hope this helps

get a line lock to help you with your burnout and some m/t drag radials.

seems like all you need is a driver mod. then you should be in 12's

A real burnout isn't necessary with stock tires. You should however do a small burnout to clean the tires off. Here's what I recommend:
  • Drive around the water box.
  • Back up and line up in the groove.
  • DON'T backup into the water.
  • Put the trans in 2nd gear.
  • Bring the RPM up to about 5,000.
  • Dump the clutch and keep the RPM around 5,000.
  • Get back on the clutch and the brake after a few seconds.
  • Don't do a burnout past the starting line.
This is basically what I do on a drag radial too. I don't apply the brakes at all until I'm done with the burnout. Second gear is important (for a slick or a drag radial) because it generates a lot of wheel speed, more than 1st gear would obviously, and wheel speed equals heat.

Honestly, you just need to learn to drive the car. You should throw some drag radials on too.

Best of luck to you! Report back with your progress.

+1 on Unit's suggestion.

Just do a quick burn out in second gear. I would just yank the clutch in 2nd real quick since you are on street tires. You just need to clean them up a tad. Depending on what tire you have, you might want to drop a few PSI in the rear and if you can, add a few pounds up front.

Practice feathering the clutch on teh street to get a good solid launch then apply it when going to the track. That will get your 60' down as well. REally, all you need is practice. I know the LV track isn't the greatest, but you can get there.

Oh, and TS Doesn't match your RWHP #'s? SHort shifting or funny dyno maybe?..LOL what are your mods? I would expect you to be 110+ easily.

Good thought.

What RPM are you shifting at?

Keep in mind that he is in Vegas and it's probably extremely hot when he's at the track. I'm not sure what the DA is there normally, but that heat isn't helping assuming that he's running when it's hot.

IIRC, the Da is 2-3k in LV.

He should still be pulling off a 12 already though. IDK about the T56 with 3.42s, but a machs 3.55s and 3650 is best shifted between 6200-6500 pending which gear you're in.

I'd guess (cause IDK about 4th gens shifting) that the 6000 is too low. Look at your dyno graph and compare the TQ curve to RPM.....play around with your shift points. Remember, you want to shift where your next gear is at a good TQ point to keep you pulling into the HP band. I'm sure you know that already though.

Thanks for the input guys,Well it seems like a line lock and a shift light with some drag radials will be next on my mod list. How deep into the 12's should I be once I get some descent 60ft times? What should be my next suspension upgrade?

I might add that when I had the car dynoed the guy said I was running lean and only took it to 6100rpm. It looks like it was running 14.1:1 at 6000rpm. Does this need to be addressed or dont worry about it.

UH...YES!!!......don't go WOT too much until you get that thing fattened up.

13:1 is ideal for N/A setups.....generally speaking, there are some variances.

You are creating excess friction/heat that can (and will eventually if you go WOT too many times) burn up a cylinder/piston.

Yes, yes, and Yes.

Fattening it up will be safer and give you more power. too lean takes power away. A proper tune with A/F and Timing will maximize your mods and power levels. If your tuner is good you will have a nicer power curve too.

I would get a handheld and take it to a tuner. Find a reputable tuner for GM, find out what software they use and get a handheld for that. Pending hand held you will be able to keep the stock tune stored, amke minor adjustments yourself (gears, shift points, etc.) and also check CEL codes.
