Default Shelby GT500 vs T/A?

Alright guys, been bench racing with my buddy at work for a few days now. He just picked up a 2009 shelby, solid black and very very nice. He wants to have a friendly race so I told him I will once my car gets tuned. Heres how it stands:

Him- 2009 shelby cobra thing, bone stock I think 500hp or something? I don't really know

Me- 1999 T/A M6 with 01 LS6, 224r cam, LTs, TD's, soon to have 4.10 rear gear.

I know he has a big hp advantage, but I have the weight advantage. What do you guys think? It will go down in about 2 weeks and I will get a video. I've deployed with this guy and am good friends so this isn't one of those "what if" bench racing things where it will never happen. Also, I plan to have a 90/90 setup before then.

You have a Ls6 motor? As long as you have some good tires to hook up those 4.10's I think you have it in the bag.

Thats what I was thinking, but I think it will be a fun run regardless. I'm not a huge mustang fan but that car is really freakin sweet.

Who knows what mods (if any) he has but you can/will make short work of a stock one.

+1

Not to mention, he has the 'new driver' on his bad side, which is a plus for you.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if you even need the gears if he's bone stock.

He refuses to do mods actually, been trying to get him to put a pulley on that ting. He just bought GT500KR wheels for it and thats it.

It's a personal preference thing. I'd prefer the drag racing setup and fully forged motor at those power levels.

A GT500's block will last longer than a Z06s when it comes to boost, etc. 9/10 times.

It is. As I stated, personal preference.....however the GT500 will handle more. Does the vette have Manley Forged H beam rods and forged pistons? If it does, then I apologize for my ignorance. I didn't know a vette could handle 850rwhp boosted from the factory.

^^^ I'm not sure either, I don't think they are. With the extra money you saved couldn't you just forge the motor when you put the Forced air on?

I could be wrong but I don't think your gonna get more then like 800 out of the ls7 without throwing NOS on top of that huh? So I've heard, could be wrong.

Yeah....my understanding is the Cyl. walls are quite narrow and can't handle much on teh bottle either without sleeving...but I've only heard that twice, so IDK.

The big hype is the fact that they are actual Shelby's and one of the few cars that will actually appreciate in value from the get go.

So I took a ride in this car last night, I was surprised. It feels really small (tall and narrow) for such a huge car. Quiet as hell too. If I can get my clutch slave in this weekend we're gonna go do a couple runs next week.

They'll start appreciating here in the next 5 or 10 years.
