98 SS vs 04 GTO
hi just wondering what you guys think about this race. I have a 98 SS 6 speed and my friend has a 04 GTO 6 speed. There are a bunch of people around town arguing about who would win the race. The mods done to the camaro are a lid, k&n air filter, custom fast toys ram air setup with a sealed air box, all the free mods, a 3" flowmaster catback with an open 3" cutout. Mods to the GTO are long tube headers, no cats, slp loud mouth mufflers, and a K&N cold air intake and he also doesn't have a tune. People say the kid with GTO can't drive but I bet he can and I'm a decent driver with a stick. The advantages I have over him is the 600 pound weight difference and that he has IRS. O and the race would be from a dig.
Thanks
Thanks

Check in the Lounge for the Bench Racing section, brother.
Potentially, his car will outgun your car. Whether or not he can drive it is beyond me. I've a friend with a stock '04 automatic that matched my stock E.T. and mph. That was a 13.4 @ 104.

I agree if he is a decent driver based on mod for mod i think he will get you despite the weight difference. Throw some gears, headers and a stall on there and you will eat him for lunch breakfast and dinner lol

nah, the 06 GTO's weigh in around 3800 give or take and the 98 camaro's weigh in around 3500-3600 give or take depending on option for both so its really a 2-300 pound difference, but the IRS of the GTO's hurt em a little from what i hear

Trust me this will be moved very soon to the bench racing section.. You have been here long enough to know the rules of this section.. Once you win the race please come back here to the proper section and post the results.. DO NOT!! Go to the bench racing and post the results on the race.. lol thanks

I have a little experience with this. When my car had just a K&N CAI and Flowmaster catback (this catback doesn't gain any power btw) I raced my friend's stock 04 M6 GTO. We raced several times on many different occasions and my car would always win, but I could only beat him off the line cause the goat seems to have a pretty bad wheel hop problem with the irs. After he got good traction I could not pull away from him, he stayed the same distance behind me all the way up to 120. My car has also had a few races with a stock A4 GTO and it beat it pretty bad every time.
I would probably put my money on the GTO in this case because he has headers and you don't. If your car had LT's or an ls6 intake it would probably be pretty even I would think. So from just my personal experience I would say M6 98-00 LS1 Fbody = M6 04 GTO, M6 01-02 LS1 Fbody > M6 04 GTO. Make sure you race from a dig and not a roll and you might be able to hold him off. When I used to race my buddy from a dig I would jump out about a car and a half off the line.

i have afriend that has a 99ss that runs 13.1 to 13.2 constant. he has won many bracket races with his car. it is all stock right down to the stock air filter. even the exhaust. all i am saying is that his camaro is very fast for stock in my books. i have raced him many times in my 04 gto when it was stock. i have allways had very little wheel hop, but i would litterally smoke the tires through 1st and 2nd and still get a 13.8. but my son had a 99 ta and i could just leave him sitting there, so not all ls1's are the same. if the guy can drive his gto, and you say you can drive a stick then i would say it would be a drivers race.
