Can I beat the newer M3's?
#3
Agreed, even the older ones are bad little boy's.......
330HP, 3400 pounds and hook out of the hole..... I would give the M3 the edge. The new ones are like 414HP and I assume about the same weight.
I have driven the 330hp ones and they hook out of the hole.... I think a newer one would have and edge over you..... unless you hooked.

With the SMG transmission as long as you hit the shift points good there is not much skill in driving them in a straight line...... no more then a automatic f-body really........... As far as I know that is the only tranny you can get with them now. You could get a full manual in the older ones though.

I highly doubt it, I ran one that was stock (I assume), mods are in sig but this was pre LS6 intake and we were dead even. So same power as you and 300 less pounds. I say A v8 m3 puts atleast a length on you. If you race have him go from a low roll (10mph maybe) since they are weak down low.

Well I ran a C5 before I had LT's (don't know if he was modded) and I beat him both times. It was really close though with me inching away from him around 140mph. I also had a passenger not sure if he had one or not.

From: HOU - yeah, you know the rest.
The V8 M3's traps around 112-115 mph (M6). I believe when one of my f-bodies was at around 33X rwhp I was trapping 110-112 mph (M6). The best you can hope for is that the other person can't drive very well, or find some more horses to put underneath your hood.

Went to Dragtimes.com and this is what I saw: (DCT)12.0 @ 115.5 1.8X 60 ft on Nitto DR, chip and 91 oct., 11.8X @ 118.7 1.8X 60 ft same car with race fuel and 91 oct. mix. (M6) M3 with chip was running 12.2 @ 114.X 1.9X 60 ft on street tires.

This means absolutely nothing, do you know if it was an m6 or a4? Was it a vert or coupe? When I was catback/CAI only I beat a full exhaust/lid m6 ws6, C5s with equal power as a full weight f body will put at least a full length on the f body from a roll and it only gets worse as the speeds go up (c5 has aero advantage).

that dosent exactly mean he cant win, i beat 115-116 mph cars from a roll when my old ws6 only trapped 112 so that dosent always mean they will win. My friends Z28 had LT's, LS6 Intake, Catback, Cutout, Lid and 3.73's and he beat a new M3 by about 1.5 cars in 3 different roll races

Yeah, it was a manual. I just put it out there because you said how you ran door to door with the new M3's and I raced a C5

But to the OP you might have a chance in a straight line if he is bone stock and you are full bolt on. Should be interesting.

Against a stock M3 it might come down to driver skill.... and if they have M button's in them like the 5 and 6's (pretty sure the 6 has one) hope the M3 driver does not know what it does haha.

Your right........ I just saw that..... Im surprised they don't have the SMG as an option or something....... it seemed they were finally getting it to shift faster.......... regardless those BMW 6 speeds are a dream compared to the american stuff along with the clutch feel..... though the clutch does loosen up some with some miles and does not feel as tight.

The M3 does come with an SMG transmission as well as a manual 6 speed. It has a high revving 4.0L V8 not the 5.0L V10 that is in the M5 and M6. The M "button" you were talking about doesn't exist. You have to go through the iDrive feature and press a few different options (M5 and M6 only) to get the full 500hp.
As far as your first post, the E92 M3 has a curb weight of around 3650lbs. Just a bit more than the E46's. The big thing with the M cars is the gearing. While not a torque monster, they roll the **** out on the highway.
OP, I would suggest getting a cam before you try any of the late model ///M cars.
