Unless of course Ford itself said it was named to Terminate the Fbody competition.

Which it did.

I'll drop it... But I still think the same exact that I thought when it started.

You understand that the OEM's work on a vehicle years before it actually comes to market right?
When it was being developed, the fbody was still around.

Do you believe that there are killer bees on their way up from South America?
Perhaps the moon landing was shot in Hollywood? Don't be a conspiracy
theorist. Mustangs and fbodies have been locked in a dual for longer than you
and I have been around...now all of a sudden it doesn't make sense that a
Mustang was meant to compete with a fbody? Come on Lemons...

What fbody is the gt500 supposed to compete with?

None... the Mustang existed before the Camaro/Trans Am, and I'm sure it will make it afterward.

used not new

you keep quoting used prices and the vette has depreciated more than the cobra.

this thread is great, pretty soon the ford gt will be an f1 "terminator;" same apples to oranges **** of comparing a 2+2 car to a 2 seater that costs at least 10k more

Yes, I know that.

IIRC I never said they did not build the Cobra to compete with the fbody. I am sure they did. In my opinion though (this whole time) it should be more matched against the Z since they have so much in common.
There is no doubt in my mind it should be compared to an fbody, like you said it is Ford VS GM.. It has to be.
But! I do think that Ford was somewhat trying to compete with the Zo6 as well. On a scale as large as the fbody? Obviously not... But I believe in the back of their minds they were shooting for it. Maybe not performance, which is obvious I suppose, but maybe in sales.

This is more my opinion. I have used facts (about the build numbers/factory options/etc) to back up my OPINION on the matter. I understand this is just my opinion and certainly not fact (or it could be, I don't know).

Hope that explains where I'm coming from a little bit more.

I was talking used.

Regardless, they are still the "same" price now. Even new, there was only a 10K difference between the Cobra/Z.... Just like the fbody/Cobra.

I'm not saying anybody is wrong or right, including myself. I am just sharing my opinion on the matter.

If you're going to talk about what market Ford intended the car for, you have to look at new price not used.

New a fully optioned Fbody was as much as a Cobra. A Cobra is still a Mustang... a fully optioned one. Loaded compared to loaded.

Base Cobra/Base fbody. I have already posted this "argument" 4-5 times in the thread.

As far as performance is concerned, there is no "base" LS1 F-body... if people spent $35k on an F-body it was their fault.

Nothing. It was in it's own category. GM is supposed to respond to it with the new Z28. Just like they originally did with the first Mustang.

What makes you think it was developed to compete with anything? Perhaps it was just developed to make money?

I always thought that it was like a mid level car to bridge the gap between the Mustang GT and the Corvette.

Well everyone is saying the 03-04 cobra was supposed to compete with ls1 fbodies and it seems to me the gt500 is just the newer version of that. I dunno, I was just saying.
