Possible father/son race.. 99 SS (me) vs. 01 z06 (dad)
My dad recently bought a millenium yellow 01 Z06. Only mod, according to him (haven't seen car in person, just pics) is a Blackwing intake. I have a 99 Camaro SS. My mods are new GM crate LS1, LS6 intake, LPE Lid, pro 5.0 short shifter, Magnaflow CB, AIR delete. I'm thinking he'll get about 1.5 cars on me at the most.
I'm curious as to what you guys think and I want a big discussion.

I think your gonna need more than that even though the 01 z06 is only 385hp its still a lighter car wwith about the same hp as your car currently makes at the crank with mods. Put some lt's on and get a tune and it maybe better but the z06 will still probably edge u out by a hair

Moving to the proper forum (Bench Racing in the Racer's Lounge). My thoughts below.
I ran an 01 Z06 with the same mod when I was running 11.7 @ 117 in warm weather. Here's how the races went down for reference:
RACE 1
As soon as I evened my speed with him at about 35-40, I began to drop to second and he punched it. I got it in second and punched it, almost immediately stopping his pull just as he was out about a car or a tiny bit more on me (maybe a car and a fender). I had to make a quick shift to third, at which point I was pulling back and had my front bumper at his quarter panel. By the top of third I had started a stronger pull and had my rear bumper at his front fender. When I hit fourth, I started to walk pretty hard, putting him another car to car and a half back, then shifted to fifth and let off halfway through fifth with him a solid 2 to 2 1/2 cars behind me.
RACE 2
We got up a little farther and both slowed a bit, this time to about 55-60mph. I dropped to third and we both goosed it back and forth a couple times, then I gave him the punch. This time he got about 3/4 of a car before I hit WOT and stopped his pull. By the top of third I was walking past him pretty hard and when I hit fourth, I just kept pulling harder. I let off at the top of fourth with him almost two cars back.
--------------------
The 01 Z06's aren't quite as fast as the 02-04's, but they are quick. He's most likely putting down quite a bit more power than you (similar to a full bolt-on LS1) and considering you didn't list any weight reduction, he's probably 300-400 pounds lighter than you. If your dad can drive well, he should have no problem putting quite a few lengths on you from a dig/low roll, and a higher roll will probably be worse for you the higher you go. Then again, even in a race like this, driver mod can make a big difference if he's slow on the shifts or starting in the wrong gear.
Either way, post up some results.

both are M6 trannys.. Idk what gears he has, but I have 3.42s (I believe that's right)..
I know this doesn't help at higher speeds, but I forgot to mention SFCs, LCAs, adj. PB. If I can get a good launch without spinning, would I be able to make up the distance he may pull up top?
I will post up results when once winter is over..

Oh ur a m6. Lol, muh bad, on my cell so i didnt notice til now. Well get the drag radials, longtubes, ory (or cutout), strano/bilstein shocks, eibach springs (or similiar) and a dyno tune and it will be closer. I pulled pretty hard on my friends 97 a4 corvette that had nittos, lid, and a catback; but I'm full bolt-ons, 4k stall, drags radials, dynoed and a stripper making me lighter than most.
If you race him as is, you have a pretty good chance if you have the driver mod and he has arthritis

well, seeing as my dad used to race dirt track, i'm definite that he is a better driver than I am.. I am still trying to find that sweet spot to launch at; And about the drag radials, idk if my stock 10 bolt would hold up, for the most part, it doesn't leak and I baby it most of the time. Maybe i'll have a bigger TB and a good Frost tune before then. I keep checkin' out the for sale section for Kooks or AR longtubes.. but it'll be a little bit til I get the funds to buy them.

The 2001 Z06 weighs about 3100lbs flat, has about 335-340rwhp, a more aggressive M12 tranny, larger tire contact patch, better aero and better weight distribution. Bring your A-game...
