Hey guys i wanted to see what my car could do so i raced a 00 SS and 01 WS6. ss was fully stock except for exhaust and the WS6 was stock besides 3.90s in the rearend (both six speeds and good drivers) well my Auto 98 Z has stock 3.23s but a LS1 out of a 99 vette(which is a tad bit dif than a 98 camaro ls1) 1.85 roller rockers, asr/abs delete kit, very mild 2000 stall(idk if thats stock) and the exhaust cut off at the Ypipe with a 8" cherrybomb and turndown. I beat them both start to finish and top end by about 2 cars. Its never been tuned or dyno'd so what kind of hp do you think i have? thanks guys

That being said, if you really want to know how much horsepower you are making at the rear wheels, go get it dyno tuned. OR, better, take it to the track and see what you run. Dyno's can give a false sense of power - they are really just tuning tools.

no tune. and thanks for the info BAD2000TA, but what kind of improvements do you think i would see if i put 3.90s under it and a volant cold air intake. (and can i get a bigger, better tb on the stock manifold?) thanks

for an intake, just buy a lid and get your stock tb ported. unless you wanna dig deeper and put the ls6 intake on.
it really depends on what your goals are....

Yea I think I'm gonna go 3.90s but idk. I like the idea bout the lid, I think I'll go with a slp lid and I'll look into porting my tb. Can you do it dif ways for better performance? And do you have to have a tune?

Not sure I understand why you would think you have any more horsepower than stock. The only mods are higher ratio rockers, which on stock, unported heads and factory exhaust manifolds, isn't going to gain you very much if any. Plus, the cherrybomb might gain you 5-10 horse over the factory catback. So, if you're wondering why you beat two other f-bodies, here's the likely reasons: 1. The stall likely got you out of the hole slight quicker and their cars didn't have anymore horsepower than you. 2. Driver mod - you just might have faced two "no-driving *****" and got the win. 3. A 2000 and 2001 F-body are now 10/11 years old. These aren't new cars anymore and they certainly will have been worn and probably beat on. So, you might have a "fresher" engine (oh, and there is hardly anything different between an F-Body LS1 and a Vette LS1).
That being said, if you really want to know how much horsepower you are making at the rear wheels, go get it dyno tuned. OR, better, take it to the track and see what you run. Dyno's can give a false sense of power - they are really just tuning tools.

The LS1 is a LS1 doesn't matter if it came out of a vette or F body, although there are some slight changes nothing that makes a difference in power. And did you roll race or from a dig? Depending on the starting speeds that could give you an advantage if they were not in the correct gear. That could of all affected the outcome. But like someone said I would say 280-300 at the wheels. You said you drove another 300 HP car? was it a F body?

Thats what I was thinking too, depending on the cars powerband and where it makes the power and even weight and the overall setup of the car can make it "feel" faster. But the only real way to tell is a dyno or track times. Very few people have enough experience to "feel" how much power a car has

the 300hp car was a 96 fbody with a stock LT1 and cheap aftermarket exhaust, it dyno'd at 302hp.... its a A4 and ive smoked it countless times... most likely starting out at all speeds possible including digs LOL but im not gonna doubt you guy cuz..you are the best and *FACT* is that i need to dyno it and take it to the track. now...about ported TBs.. DO TELL because im thinkin bout getting a slp lid and porting the TB but i know nothing about that. wouldnt you need a tune because of a higher idle?

anyways, there's plenty of threads out there on how to port your tb or you could send it to someone to port or just keep an eye on the "for sale" section.
porting the tb will not raise the idle...
i wouldn't say you absolutely NEED a tune after a lid and ported tb but it would definitely help everything work together better and maximize hp.

alright thanks boost. and if the hp is true then why would GM say the 98 Z28 comes out with 330hp and the 99 vette came out with 345hp? do they lose the hp as they drive out of the manufacturing building?? lol im not arguing, im just askin..

`98-00 F-body 305 HP (SS/WS6 320 HP)
`97-00 Corvette 345 HP
Don't read too much into these because they have been proven to be BS.
All LS1's `97-04 make approx 345-350 HP no matter what car they were in.

And I believe GM claimed 305 on base model F bodies, 320 for WS6 and SS, and 345 for the vettes
