lq4 build horsepower guess
Building the motor for a 88 formula and curious what she may make.
2004 LQ4 370 block
Mahle 4.030 l92 pistons
Eagle ESP 6.125 H beams
Stock LS3 heads
Victor jr intake
holley 750hp dp
Patrick G 235/243 .621/.624 110+4
ASP underdrive pulley
T56
No ac
No ps
What kinda power should I expect to put down before a 150 hit of nitrous?

Looks like 10.6/1 with stock gaskets. Still will make good hp , I don't have as good of heads and my lq4 has 10.3-1 and makes 452/422 to the wheels .
I think you will still make good power anywhere over 10/1.

I would love to have the 11:1 comp not only for my 500 whp goal, but the nitrous will love it too.

Here play around with this and find what you need to reach your goal. If you mill the heads .025 that should bring them to around 64 cc, assuming the ls3 heads are 1 cc for every .006 milled off like the ls1 heads .

So here is what it will take to get 11/1
Heads milled .030 to get 63 cc
Pistons seem to be 6 cc
Gasket needs to be .040 and 4.085 bore(4.065 maybe?)
Cyl bore 4.030
Deck height will be about -.009 above deck( have to use - when it's above the deck)
Stroke is 3.622

Also, Patrick G said I would make more power with some ported heads on my setup. He gave me the name of a company which is slipping my mind right now. He said they are one of the best ls3 porters and will make notable gains since they don't hog the ports out. How much hp do you think I can pick up with some good porting?

Pat g is right but I can't put a hp number on that.
I am running 241 casting heads on my lq4 .
My heads were ported 10 years ago at a local shop, the man that ported them told me he was porting for Tq. By that, all he did was port the short turn radious, ported some in the throat area and knife edge the valve guide on intake side and put in 2.02 valves.
On the exhaust side he ported it very nice and left stock valve but did a full valve job on the heads.
These heads have really good low and mid lift numbers , on par with all the top ported ls1 heads out but they start to plain off at 256 cfm at .500 lift and 262 at .600 where they peak.
Exh flows great, 219@.600 lift with no pipe.
63.5 cc combustion chamber that has been opened up for the 4" bore but not flowed since then. Flow numbers were before when they were on the ls1 block.
With my lq4 shortblock, stock gaskets(.052) 63.5 cc I have 10.35/1 compression.
F14 cam which is 232/234-.600/.600 112+4
My trans am dyno'ed 452/422 through a 12 bolt with 4.11 gears and 17" wheels.
I do have a fast 90/90 ported by Futral , edelbrock stepped headers 1.3/4-1.7/8 3" y pipe to a cutout in my edelbrock catback.
Through the exh it made 440/410 and it's 2 mph faster through the cutout.
The car has ran a best of 11.32@121.3 mph with a 1.65 60 ft in complete street trim at 3850 lb race weight.
So even if you only make 450@ the wheels, these engines are no slouch. Along with porting which is why I went through my set up with you, pat is right. Don't worry about how shiny the ports look or how much they flow. It's where they port at that makes the difference.
The only way I am changing heads on my car is for trickflow . Most likely will just mill and run a .04 gasket to get 11/1 compression and not change heads. They work to good to get caught up in flow numbers.

Ok, thanks alot guys. My car should roll out damn good before the nitrous. It has a moser 9" 4.30 gear and race weight is 3150. On the bottle I don't see why low 10s aren't possible.

Getting ready to pull the trigger
What's the parts costs ?
Mahle 4.030 l92 pistons
Eagle ESP 6.125 H beams
Stock LS3 heads
Patrick G 235/243 .621/.624 110+4
Just left the machine shop for a "rough labor cost"..... looking real doable
