Default Finally ordered a converter :)

Well I finally made a decision on a converter and I am going with a Circle D converter. Members on this board are having real good results and I thought I would give them a shot. My tranny guy also gave them a great reference.

Looking forward to hitting the track in 2009

9's here we come

I know what it takes to go 9's, def good luck, does that car have ALL of the SFI approved safty requirements so when you do you get that Lic? Dunno if IHRA and NHRA mirror the same requirements since your at Epping but for any other track here. Just curious.

I am hoping for 11's with some work and a little personal weight reduction.

Good luck with it, the right converter will make a big difference. I picked up .4 and almost 5 mph from a converter swap, with pretty much no other changes.

You'll get a 9 second pass out of it this year for sure, the safety and all that stuff is the pita that will come after.

Yea, the one thing I have always said is gears and converter / Launch RPM, is the most critical thing for a car that is for MAX effort 1/4mi or even a good street car. It is all about optimizing the set up the get the best out of it. Given the potential of the car, it should yeild great dividends, it just sucks when you crack the 9.99 Barrier, thats a whole nother level of safety equipment.

Then I'll make my license passes as soon we get the car working

That, the license runs, the physcial that has to be done first, and now according to the 09 nhra rulebook I got a couple weeks ago, an engine retention deivice engine pan or diaper) is required as well.

pita stuff, but we all have to go thru it sooner or later.

circle d makes a very good converter, as does ati, ultimate converter concepts, and a few others.

I wouldn't put them in the same class as a bolt together chance converter, but I don't think ya need that until you're trying to go into the bottom 8 second range or faster.

I don't think I need a physical to get a IHRA license. I know my cousin only had to make the 6 passes and they signed him off

That might be the case, I'm not sure.

I know that if you get an NHRA license, you can send the paperwork in, or a copy of your NHRA license and get an IHRA lic, but NHRA won't recognize an IHRA license and they will make you go thru it all again.

That being said, unless you don't plan on ever racing anywhere other then epping I'd get your NHRA one and then just send the paperwork in and get the IHRA one, be easier in the long run, that way in case you move someday and there's no IHRA track around, or if epping were to close or go to nhra, or if ya wanted to make a trip to another track you'd be good to go, stuff to think about. Same thing with the chassis cert, I'd get it NHRA certified.

I'm pretty sure I am just going to race the 9.50 index at Epping. Just too expensive to go anywhere else.

I'm only an hour and a half from NED.

Just something to think about, I'd get as much of the lic. stuff done and out ofo the way once and never have to do it again (just keep it up to date with your memberships and physcial's every year)

But I hear your reasoning as well and it also makes sense.... IMO, better to have then to not.
