Default Power Window Issue.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...-going-up.html

I figure post it here and see if anyone else can give an opinion, this has been posted in Gen. Matenice.

I did some searching and I think I know the answer, I would just like some opinions and exp.

I've had a 94 LT1 car with over 120k and never had to change the motor, the damn window switch broke before that ever happend.

So anyways, my car is a 2002. It has 43k on the clock and I was driving with my wife and all of a sudden her window (passanger) stops working all the way down.

I was suprised at this, it is a little slower, then the driver which I am aware that happens. At one time they were nearly as fast and last summer I noticed it was quite as fast.

We pull over and I open the passanger door, hers and mine are not moving it up (it was completely down at that point), I shut the door, open, nothing. Then with the door open I snap the inside door handle and it works. The window goes up. Now the radio has some interference when I am using the window.

I get home, and went to close it the last 1 to 2" and again stop dead cold.

Is this a wiring issue, like a short, or is the motor that shot. I have seen some windows be SO SLOW, its like painful to watch. If I went from completely down to completely up with both window, when the driver was done there would be a good 6 inches left to go. To give a comparision.

Thanks for any opinions!

nevermind me, i read the post wrong. classic window motor failure. thought you were saying both windows just out of the blue started doing it. the radio interefence thing is probably just the motor drawing a **** ton of extra power to try and make it work which just results in heating it up. before you condemn the motor, take the door panel off and lube the track. might have caught it before its toasted but i doubt it

my buddy's 98 ta would do this. it would close all but the inch gap. if we waited about 2-3 minutes it would go back up. pretty sure it was the window motor

Sounds like the classic motor failure. You can either swap the motor or replace the wiring. I've replaced the motor. The wiring, apparently, is indirect and provides low current to the motor. Replacing this with a high current setup (there's a link around here somewhere to buy it....) provides enough current to speed up the motor.

That's called the Autotrix kit, they are a sponsor. Their kit gives the passenger side window motor more power.

If you are ambitious enough you can take apart the old motor, clean and lubricate it and possibly save it. I found a thread once showing how to do it, didn't look that hard. Another possibility is that the thermal resistor inside the motor is shot.

that kit with a new window motor will make faster than it was from the factory. if you wanna save a little cash, the kit is just a 40A relay spliced in to step up power. for what autotrix charges though its almost easier to just buy the kit from them.

I got one at Autozone. Forgot the brand but it has a lifetime warranty and has been working fine. It's an easy installation, too.

I've been through 4 motors so far in 64k! Its been a known issue for years and gm never changed the design, I had a cross reference chart for all gm window motors almost all are identical. Ive used one from an 85 silverado in a 98 camaro and it bolts right up

Yeah I gotta do my Pass side soon. Slow as molasses. The only other thing that sucks about F-bodys, TA's in particular are the stupid cracks that form on the tops of the door panel. I got to try and fix my drivers side.

I've ried tyo fix my drivers side 3 times now Dan... if ya find a way please share. Mine has re-seperated after 3 different attempts to get it to stay put with different epoxy's etc.etc.

Short of drilling 2 holes and using some sort of screw and a brace inside... I cant get the gap on the crack to close back up and stay put
