Default Who can do a gear install and make it mouse quiet???

My rear is making noises these days and it's time for a rebuild I think, or at least replace the bearings. It's a stock 10-bolt with a rear TA cover with GM 3.73s in it. They've been in the rear for over 45k miles and I always had some whine on decel, but now it's just growling at anything over 30 mph. I'm going to try and check if it's the tires, as they have some years on them and are hard as a rock by now, but the rear is in need of some TLC for sure. I hadn't realized how bad it was till I had put the t-tops back in, and had the windows up one day and it's deafening the amount of noise from the rear. I shut off the motor just to see if it was exhaust drone and nope, it's rear end related. As soon as I drop below 30mph, it goes quiet. Still a little decel whine, but the howling/grinding goes away.

I don't track the car at all, so please, no comments on it's worthless to fix a 10-bolt. I'm on 19's, so traction isn't going to be hurting the rear. I just want it quiet. I'm contemplating getting a set of micronited gears as well.

So who is somewhat local to the Philly area and can set up a gears to be quiet???

A lot of the noise in my 10 bolt came from a bad axle bearing, dug a nasty groove into the axle. As a first step you could just do a fluid change yourself and while it's open pull the axles & check the bearings.

Good point. Sounds like my winter to-do list is already starting to form.

That is a little far, but nothing crazy. I'd just have to make arangements to have someone follow me out there, or see if it could be done in a day.
