Default Finishing Video Games...

http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/gaming....now/index.html

After reading this, who here is guilty of this?

I would say I am. I may finish roughly 20-30% of games but IMO I think its subjective. To me, to finish a game now, today, is getting all the achivements avalible (maybe excluding multiplayer if the game is not a huge multiplayer hit i.e. Brutal Legend).

Back in the day where there was no achivements or trophies I beleive completing a game to get all the endings or multi-play throughs to try out different branches of the story. (i.e. Ogre Battle and Chrono Trigger)

After college and getting married, and discovering a car-hobby def took a bite out of that extra time. Which is fine as I like car detailing, racing, BBQ/Smoking better but its still a "cheap" hobby so I still do it on occasion.

Notable List of Games never Finished:

Final Fantasy 8- Dreamcast came out same day, and game mechanics sucked
Final Fantasy X2- Got sick of the mini games and again Game Mechanics
Final Fantasy XII- High hopes to finish, got married, and again Leveling System too repetative.
Grand Theft Auto III and IV- Got far, but really enjoying causing mayhem instead
Marvel Ult Allience I and II- Love the series just got board of the style of play
Fist of the North Star- Huge Dynasty Warriors fan and this game made by the same people but just some reason could not finish it. Rather play Fallout...
Gran Turismo Series- Got bored after a while. Too easy to cheat.
Assassins Creed- High hopes but gave up on the PS3. Dedicated Hi-Def **** Player.

Most are "role playing" but I am sure there is more but wondered if anyone else ever have this problem.

it seems to be happening to me too. for instance need for speed. i want straignt to online play with the new camaro.

Final fantasy X2- i always wanted to know what happened after FFX but got new games at the same time as FFX2 last year so i never got far, and i hated the fight mechanics.

Turok for the 360- ....dam T-rex made me quit playing that game.

Assassins creed 1 & Brotherhood- just didnt ever finish

theres a long list but ive finished a lot too.

Like Legend of zelda: Ocarina of time for N64

I have not even touched the single player mode on black ops ha ha. I have also been playing gran turismo 4 since it came out and I don't even have the super license yet. Who needs the super when you can just b-spec with the 787b and destroy everyone? Ha ha

I dont bother with FInishing games....half the time i dont even start em. all the Call of duty games i jump straight to online gameplay. only in the instance where i can unlock something to use online will i attempt to complete 1 player mode ie: Mortal Kombat...you need to go through 1 player mode and finish it to unlock Cyber Sub Zero and Quan Chi.
so i finished it.

repetitive/poor gameplay is the reason I don't complete every game. If you can make a game awesome and fun to play for 80 hours, I'd play the entirety. It's not the time of the game that's important it's the quality. And if companies begin making games shorter, that sure as hell better reflect in the cost.

nah....its kool seein him in the game but he does nothing for me as far as moves and combos. i try to focus on learning 5 maybe 6 characters and stick to them. i downloaded all the compatibility packs so people can use all the new characters against me and ive seen a few people allready who are pretty brutal with him.

Fighting games tend to turn me off as they get to the point where if you like one or two characters and IF you play on-line, you find out how bad you are and how some other characters are totally overpowered if played perfectly correct.

See Powergaming as an example. As its not in the spirit of play....

I never finished Final Fantasy VIII or X, even though I was probably less than 5 hours away from beating both. Have X-2 but never started it. Also never finished Final Fantasy Tactics, I was towards the end, got Cloud and started to level him. Guess that was a distraction and I just never finished.

Started season 6 or whatever the last one is in Forza 3, so I guess this is a did not finish.

Started NFS: Prostreet years ago on the PS2, didn't last more than an hour. That game will probably never come back out of its case. Huge disappointment.

Never could beat Terminator 2: Judgement Day on the SNES.

Guess my list is short, I really try to finish a game before moving on to the next one.

I hate you guys. I have absolutely no time for video games anymore.

I used to be glued to my video game console in my younger years. It's really depressing how much time work takes away from me these days.

I try to finish all my games, but if an achievement takes too long or seems to crazy I just move on to something else. I do complete the story modes in all my shooters, but racing games not so much. I am almost at 100% in Forza 3, but NFS:HP I just went straight to the multiplayer.

multi player is boring as **** for me. cheaters, hackers, bunny hoppers.....ugh. i miss the days when a good game took DAYS, if not weeks to finish. i wonder how many hours i had into the halflife series, without ever once playing online. while the single player was good in the modern warfares, it pales in comparison to the depth and length of older games. even the GTA series were so long, so in depth, i played for weeks and still never got to the official end.

i havent bought may new games, but fallout 3/NV are the only ones that really got me hooked for 100+ hours.

I never finish games either. I generally explore until I go as far as I reasonably can, then shelve it.

I sold GTA IV after a month of owning it. I got to the very end when all the islands were open, drove around, got bored of running over people and stealing helicopters, and sold it on ebay. It seems often I push something to it's limit to explore them.. then when I find the borders, I'm done.

Also, if I die more than twice in a game.. I stop playing it.

I loved dead space but I got locked in a dark room with a monster that wouldn't die.. it's been on the shelf for almost a year now.

thinking back when I was a kid.. I usually played open ended games like simcity, so I was never really big on beating them. Farther back than that? mario games.. nope.. never beat those either.

Definitely get platinum trophies for the really good games. Like the Resident Evils, God of Wars, Dead Space, Infamous, Uncharteds... In Arkham Asylum I couldn't get 3 bats on the last few fighting challenges. Pretty frustrating. I have Dead Space 2 and Infamous 2 on deck which will definitely both be platinum'd.
