Even if oil/bearing issues didn't cause the motor's dimise here (ring land possibly), now would be the time to address potential oiling issues since the motor will be out anyway. Depending on which k-member you have, a pan with a bit more capacity, or at the very least adding a racing baffle to the stock pan would be an inexpensive, yet worthwhile investment.
