Default MASS state inspection...anyone hear of this?

A good friend of mine with an 04 cobra recently went for inspection in MA. The car was plugged in as usual and seemed to go normal but when finished the computer system rejected the car based on the fact that the ECU had been "altered"....and that to get the car inspected it would need to be taken to a mass state police facility to be put on a lift and inspected by a DOT cop. He was calling it a MAP station? anybody hear of this?? I think I may have read something about GM computers not being detectable...I am due in sept. so now a little worried...any thoughts on this or experience??

Been discussed several times on here. Moral of the story is this only applies to Fords...there's no issue passing with a GM computer if it's tuned right.

I have had a few mustangs fail for the ecm being tuned. The tuners are taking the values out of the ecm and the obd is detecting it. I haven't had any problems with GM's at all.

My friend with an srt 4 was failed for that also due to using a chrysler stage 2 ecm. He put the stick one back in a nd passed with no problems.

We just had a turbo vw r32 at the shop thats dealing with the same thing. When you check the readiness monitors on some of these "tunes" they read "NOT SUPPORTED". This was the case on this r32. No way are you getting a sticker when the catalyst system reads "NOT SUPPORTED". My trans am reads "READY" on all readiness monitors, just like if the car had all the emmisions stuff hooked up.

it's probably a few check boxes that need to be changed and they'd pass no problem.

I know plenty of modified fords that pass just fine

Didn't know Mass had emissions testing? Thought it was just a plug in, check for codes/readiness and done?

Ya obd2 is an emissions test but it checks for what you listed.
