Default 1998 WS6 Detailing?

Hi guys,

I haven't been on this forum for years but was hoping I could get some assistance. I still have my 1998 Trans Am WS6 that I bought new. The paint is mostly original (a couple of touch-up areas) and has been garage kept for quite a while. There are a ton of swirl marks in the paint and I was wondering if there are any good detail shops in the South Jersey area that could do a good clay bar, compound, wax etc.? I might try to do it all myself but I don't really have the time and would rather let a more experienced person handle it.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Too bad you aren't closer, I do detailing out of Baltimore.

If you are willing to tackle it yourself there are plenty here to give you advice and get you started with the right equipment and materials.

Unfortunately I don't know anybody out that way.

Thanks for the replies. I might just handle it myself. I am planning to use the Meguiars clay bar, either swirlx or compound and then wax. Do you guys think that would do the trick to remove most of the swirl marks? The paint has a good deal of swirl marks but I wouldn't say it is too bad. I will be doing it all by hand.

Doing by hand will likely not remove to the quality you want. A DA or rotary is what you need.

By hand you will not be a happy camper.

After you clay the car you will want a DA and a couple pads to do the work for you. I always recommend the porter cable 7424xp for a beginner, get some 5" med/light cut pads and if you like Maguire's you can probably pickup some M105/M205 locally. A wipe down to get the oils out after, then whatever last step process you like, sealing/wax etc.

There are lots of videos online using the porter cable, its about as fool proof as you can get.

Thanks. I will look into getting a porter cable. Now I just need to dedicate a full day to handling this.

I use a rotary but da like the porter for you would be perfect. I would wash car with dawn dish soap, clay bar followed by m105 then a polish like m205, I would also finish with a glaze then a nice wax on top of that

Thanks for all the tips. I will try to post up some pics before and after. It's probably going to take me some time because I also need to clear some space in the garage to do the work.
