Thumbs down Time for a tranny

well after enough abuse my tranny finally decided to say hey ******* i had enough lol. Not bad, the car has 139,000 miles so I put 10,000 miles on it since i bought the car. Looking at my options, rebuild, buy built, i dont know. Either way the car can sit for alittle while til after christmas then I'll worry about it. Anyone got any ideas post up. I was looking at the Speed Inc Pure Evil Tranny for like $1600 but I am sure theres a cheaper way of doing this....

That sucks! Well at least it happened now, instead of in the Spring. 139K miles! Not too shabby at all!

Dean (nedyno) has a fully built 4l60e all the good stuff, same setup Marc (1standgoal) has. I'd say good for 10's all day. MArc hasn't gone 9's yet so I won't say its good for 9's yet.

I'd say for $1600 to get a built A4 is a good deal. Just make sure you throw a 3000+ stall in that sucker, a tranny cooler & 2 quart extra aluminum tranny pan. The cooler you keep the tranny, the longer it will last-Fred

1600 isnt that bad at all marco, cost that much to just rebuild it half way decent, do it all now though knowing your adding more power in the future.

If money is tight then you need to take it out and drop it off as no-one will rebuild and R&R it for $1600.

You get what you pay for and I highly recommend SRA Transmission but then again you can only lead a horse to water you can't make him drink

I suggest having YOUR CORE done up by someone reputable. (like Curtis's guy). Using your core, you know what you had to begin with, and with a local shop doing the job---it's not to far to go in person if there are any problems afterward. Doing a trans once is bad enough--doing it twice or more REALLY sucks. Junkyard transmissions are always hit and miss---especially from a high performance donor car. Good luck, Marco, but don't try to "skimp" here.... WJ

who is Curtis's guy????

I'm gonna have Don do all the work. I just cant decide on where to get the tranny done. Most likely SRA is getting the call cause if anything I wont have to pay shipping charges and all that bullshit. It will be easier to just drop the tranny off with them. Now i have to look into a converter

Curtis is the guy with the black SS Silverado, black trailor and black SS. Don and Curtis chat alot at the track.

Whatever you do, try to see if you get a warranty, if it breaks 2 months out of the shop you dont want to be stuck with a hole in your wallet.

P.S. Get that cam that Don's selling and match a stall for that power range

The mans name is Keith Protz, of Wakefield Performance Transmission!

His number is (781)-245-8080.

At last conversation his rebuild cost was $1500.00, but don't quote me on that.

Good luck
