Default got dyno #'s on rx7

I will get graph tonight when i pick up car at Cartek.
When I first got the dyno numbers, I was very dissappointed. But a few hours later, the previous owner (mickey) faxed me the cam card:
.523/.530 lift!! 114 lsa 216/220

That is like a retarded small cam. This motor was built in january 1999!!! Damn, they didn't know jack back then.

My B1 cam in the firebird, which was considered a baby cam had .558 lift. So you can see how small the rx7's cam is in comparison.
Cam in firebird was also 221/221 duration, where as the cam in the rx7 has duration of only 216/220.

this is the dyno info:
375 hp at 5400 to 6300. falls slowly after that. Peaks around 5800-6200
388 tq peak 4500-4600. but between 4000-5000 is pretty flat.

They said not to worry about the low numbers (I first thought motor was bad). its an older design 370 motor package and doesn't make the power like newer combos.

When I was making 375 hp in the formula when it had a cam only, my tq was only 360-365. so for the HP this is making, the tq peak and curve is nice.

Another comparison, my firebird with Cartek heads and b1 cam made 388 tq. Which is what this rx7 makes now. And its 600 lbs lighter

I spoke to dave this morning and he made me feel better about the motor and told me not to worry about it. and Julio called me after tuning it (nice customer service….thank you guys!!) and told me it was making 31 degrees of timing at some points. That explains the KR I was getting when I ataped it. He also said limiter was 6200…..thats why I kept hitting it …. I was told it was set to 6600. haha oh well. no biggy there. I just thought the tach was REALLY slow. Picking it up after work today

oh and i had Mufflex install a 3.5 inch bullet muffler in front of the hooker aerochamber muffler to lessen some of the drone. while under the car, Denny noticed a brace was missing bolts on the left side but still bolted in to right side (sort of like the tunnel brace of f-body but this is not flimsy stamped steel, its cast and is sturdy). left side holes were stripped so they tapped them and got it nice and tight. another great local shop!

Awesome, the thought of a light car like the FD and a motor like that seems pretty damn fun. What part of NJ are you in just out of curiosity? And another vote for Mufflex here

he never dyno'd it on chassis dyno. his engine dyno sheet (he faxed it to me today) said 474 hp. that was in feb 1999. yes that is a long time ago.

Uh, damn...

That's one hell of a rocket ship you're building there. When I get the Cobra finished we can run them.

I figure I'll run at least in the high 12's with my mad driving skillz, yo.

That car is just frightening. I can't imagine how violent a launch on slicks would be in that thing.

Those sound like pretty good #s for the motor , I ran that cam , I thought it was 216/220 525/532 and it was an awesome cam with my bolt in my ls1 , I only put down 342rwhp and 380tq and my full weith 99 TA would run consistent 11.80s at 112/113mph ... Thats a small cam by todays standard but it puts down pretty good power and torque..

john, thanks dude!
alan, its a fun ride for sure. looks good too. rx makes 1 ft-lb more torque than my head/cam firebird. and makes it a lot sooner. see firebird dyno below (blue cam only, red h/c):

Would this setup benefit from 1.8 or 1.85 ratio rockers??

If you're gonna road race, then the durability of billet rockers will be a plus- along with not-so-crazy lift on the cam.

I think Bob might be onto something...
Jesel makes a nice rocker,1.85's would wake that baby up but I'm sure a cm change would be better...Still those are very good numbers for a docile 370CI.

Hey Mike how's things?

I'm out in Southern Florida now working for Carfax, married with two kids (and one on the way) and I'm pretty comfortable.

Next time I'm up in the area I'll hit you guys up. Maybe we can put together a little get together. I'm always down for lots of beer.

What have you been up to and are those wheelie bars in the picture of your car? All I can say is YIKES!

Anyway, back to Scotts ride... I think some of you guys are forgetting how light this car is. It's got to be nearly 5-700 pounds less than an F Body. Scott doesn't want a 9 second road race car.
