Default New winter project..... on a quest for 9's!

Ok, so after spending last friday at the track with Noyzee and b-man and watching thier cars run... I was hooked... I want to go that fast! I want a single digit time slip! So I started looking at what it was going to cost me.... But then I came up with an idea.... you may have seen my uncles car on here I had for sale... It's a forged 383, lingenfelter heads and at 5lbs of boost it went 10.6 at 133 on nitto's.. So I was thinking, it did that at a race weight of close to 4000lbs and suspension that is set up for road racing... SO here's my new project, I'm buying it from him. this winter I'm going to put it on a crash diet, anything it doesn't need to go fast is getting torn out, then I'm going to buy a set of slicks and skinnies and in the spring, I'm going racing After that is done, there will still be alot of work needed, new gears, suspension, and then I'll see what I can do about getting more power out of it... I'm new to this so I'm going to have lots and lots of questions

DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

dont rip that car up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

myself and ESP can help you build a 9 second car for less money, and you wont have to rip up a perfect car!!!!

dont, i repeat, dont do it!!

go to e-bay, find a 98-99 hardtop 6 banger camaro/ta for 2-3 k
then we will talk about what next.
an all out racecar will be easy to do.
and we can do it for pretty short $$$$

get the car and we can meet up and make a list of stuff and what it will cost.
i bet you could get out of it for almost what your uncles car will cost to buy

Haha, that was my only hang up was tearing up that car... it's perfect... and it's an Lt1, but I figured if I blew the motor through the hood it would be a good reason to upgrade...lol The reason I was thinking about doing it is, that car is already built... tranny, rear, cage, everything is there... but we'll see. I wanted to start fresh with a 98-99 Z-28, but my dad is trying to convince me to do it with this car.... I would really rather go with a nitrous car anyway... we'll talk about it, I'm not doing it today

dont start with a z28, the initial cost will be to much. unless you can find one rolling, or with a blown motor.

that car is built wrong. its more street/roadrace. you will spend as much trying to get that car to go fast plus the huge tag on the car. save 20k off the top and get a 98.
trust me. if i could do it again, my car would be heads cam daily driver, and id have a beater that i turned race car.

Racing is fun indeed....
If I did it again I'd go LS2 402/AFR225/LSX/90/2800lb ALL MOTOR TA..Easy 9 Sec passes with that type of setup....Its $$$ to do a good chassis at 2800lbs but in the end u would have a wicked motor car...

Pete do it

I agree don't tear apart that LT1 car.. I would love to put a 402 in my car with the heads and intake I have now. Remove a few more pounds and run 9's .. Any idea how much a good 402 short block will cost ??

Argh, that LT1 is too nice to tear apart. I dont care for LT1's at all but I like that one car alot. If I was in the posistion I would buy that car and slowly just make it faster and faster yet keep it clean, neat and keep the miles off of it. That car is really nice. I'd even consider it if I didnt have my GTO.

Slowhawk just got a Z28 with I think 4,000 miles (may be wrong but very close) with no motor or tranny and it was dirt cheap considering what it cost's to buy a car you are going to tear apart. The interior is new, the paint is mint and there's no guilt tearing apart the car because it needs everything.

Dont mess that car up.

You guys are right, I've been looking at cars on ebay, the auto hunter...etc, I should be able to pick up a 98-99 for dirt cheap.... I really hated the idea of stripping that car apart, but it's just sitting there collecting dust...

An all motor car would be great... I have alot of thinking to do.. If you guys have any suggestions... throw them at me. Hmmm, firebird or camaro?

Get a V6 car if you cant find anything with a motor, those things are usally alot cheaper.

I'm no single digit expert but the guys here can help.

I'm not going to put a $$$ limit on it yet... I'll just stick with "as cheap as possible" and go from there... The question is more... whats it going to take for me to see a 9.99 or less next spring?

Thats what I've been looking at, you can find a good shape 100,000 mile '98 for really cheap.. I've never even looked at a V6 before...lol

Dont know what condition you want the body to be in, that can dictate alot.

Motor wise....the fast guys can correct me if they want but it seems like a nice forged stock cube engine, AFR heads, compression and juice is all you need. With an auto and different nitrous jets, the fun will never end.

if you want as cheep as possable. go with a spray kit.
do a mild build like mine, and spray the ***** off of it!!!
my motor can be done pretty cheep.

figure on 2500 for heads, and you will need a good tranny, and a good rear. the rest is suspention and a cage.

im going to say $25k plus the car and you can go 9's all day and enjoy it with just basic matinence. oil changes, tranny fluid every once and a while, and plugs every 5 passes or so.
