cherry picker... I thought the engine had to come out the bottom. Lift the body off the engine type of thing.

or do what i did, i cut the top brace just a little bit right in the center, about 8" wide, the pully slides right threw it, and with the radiator suport, you cant even tell, and it is still plenty strong!

ps, lifting the car off the motor is deffinetly the hard way. lol

I used the picker to pick the car up the first time (no lift). I still think it is easier out the bottom. Just put the motor back in for the second time through the bottom. Didn't take hardly any time, plus you can leave erverything on it

Top is easier. Takes us about 3-4hr's to do it. By the time it comes out it is almost completely dissasembled. People talk about 2-2.5hrs out the bottom but they still have to dissasemble the setup after.

No, you need to drop the tranny first.

being an auto you may not need to drop the trans just seperate the tq converter and the bellhousing bolts. you might have to slide it back a tad for clearence at most

I'll get flamed for this, but I still say out the bottom. You've guys have done it numerous times out the top, I'm sure you have it down to a science.

Out the bottom is 6 bolts, steering column, two brake lines, upper strut mounts and hoses/fuel lines. Pull the harness out with the car and everything. No reaching under the cowl to disconnect sensors on the back of the motor, unbolting headers, removing radiators, intake, HOOD etc. Once the motor is out everything is right in front of you making dissasembly/reassemby a breeze???

For the novice, out the bottom is the way to go. then you can keep the motor with the tranny.

Last Saturday I put in pushrods, intake, accessories, flywheel, clutch, tranny, headers, harness, got in on the crossmember, lowered the car onto the K-member, bolted it up, struts, hoses, belt, tranny crossmember, steering column, wiring, brakelines in about 6-7hrs with minimum help. Literally worked by myself except for the occasional, "can you give me a hand."

I have never pulled it out the top though, I did begin to do it that way the first time. Just seemed as though I was always working around something, sitting on the rad support etc. Not to mention scratching my fenders to hell leaning over them (with blankets). I could be wrong, I've been wrong before, but I've done it twice now through the bottom.

OK I'm done
