Royal Purple
Just curious if anyone is using it or has starting using it? I have been using Mobil 1 but we are going to try royal purple when I change the oil next weekend. A friend of mine gained a little under 10 rwhp on his camaro when switching to it. I am not exactly sure what oil he had before, but i believe it was castro racing oil. I figured maybe it was worth a try

I used to run Royal Purple... The oil always came out the same color that it went in, my oppinion on that is it isn't cleaning the engine. Not sure if they run less detergents or what??? Mobil 1 always came out BLACK even after 1500-2000mi.
Only benefit I saw was a little quieter LS1 piston slap

Do you folks ever spend the 20 bucks to have your oil analyzed once every few oil changes? Just curious as it is well worth it in my opinion. http://www.blackstone-labs.com/free_test_kit.html
The Royal Purple racing 41 formula does very well in the LS1 but some of the the other RP oils like the 5w-30 DO NOT do very well in the LS1. For that mattter neither does M1 5W-30. The truck and SUV M1 does well in an Ls1 as does the GC 0W-30, Redline 5W-30, Amsoil 5W-30 and RP Racing 41.
If you listen to the resident oil experts here they say the RP 5W-30 and M1 5W-30 are too thin at temperature and are closer to a 20 weight oil according to oil tests done. I'm not the oil expert (that would be Patman) but I have read a lot about oil for the LS1 over the last 3 years and would not use either the RP 5W-30 or the M1 5W-30 in my LS1. This coming from a guy who up until my LS1 used M1 5W-30 in EVERY car I've ever owned and that is probably more than 20 cars.
Just my 2 cents...

If you have the latest issue of Hot Rod, Comp Cams speaks of using Diesel truck oil as one of the best oils to use in performance engines in lieu if cams rounding out and or failing over time. My new motor is breaking in with Rotella SAE 40
