Ever seen a small block like this?
We had the opportunity to tune this "creation" last summer. The builder is an engineer, with a background in foundry/casting.
Its a small block,383, upright, turned into an outboard!!
He cast the valve covers, as well as the housing that the back of the block bolts to. He made the shaft housing, the tilt/trim/jacking plate. Basically everything except the engine and the "foot".
It is a masterpiece of machine work. And one of the most enjoyable things I've ever tuned.
Thought everyone might enjoy seeing this......

As far as the oiling system, the motors been together and running for some time. I believe it has a feed right to the top of the motor/front of the motor, so its not pushing the oil up.
This guy has spent YEARS developing this thing. There's not much he hasnt thought of and then conquered/overcame.

I would still like to see how their oil system works. I'd assume it'd have to be some sort of dry sump at the very least.

pretty friggin cool tho!!!
id love to see more pics or a link
The oil system is wet sump. Thats right. The pan has a hook/bend in it at the bottom. There is a dedicated oil pressure circuit that goes to the top/front of the block. Hes done some stuff to keep the back/bottom cyl from being overwhelmed with oil. The engines been running for quite a few years so hes done something right.
But, being that it was built by an engineer, it's probably got something to stop that should it ever happen.
The cover is just like any other outboard cover. Its there to protect the engine from the elements, not to protect people from the engine in case of failure.
If it throws a rod, its no worse than an outboard engine, with the exception that the rods are heavier. I'm not really worried about it as I'm sitting right in front of it, tune at 50 MPH.
The hull used to look completely different. The owner cut the hull in half length wise, narrowed it, did a bunch of transom work to it, and then redid the forward top half. What would be the top of the cabin if there was one.
Its not very fast, not really what it was built for. We are trying to get the speed up, but that is actually secondary to getting it to "work" right. If he wanted speed, he would have used a much better hull. The hull at this point is nothing more than something for the engine to push around. It almost time for him to get it out and we'll start playin with it again. Cant wait!!! It gets ALOT of attention at the boat ramp!!

the boat must porpus alot with the weight that far back unless balist is added to the front or center., but it is deffinetly somthing to look at, i never seen anything like it.
pretty wild for sure.
