Car count down at tracks..... People that normally race at different tracks every weekend on the eastern seaboard have told me that car counts (registered entries at dragstrips) are way down this year. Could it be that more and more people are feeling the pinch from the high fuel/travel costs and the big dip in the overall economy? WJ 
i think its a mix of crappy humid weather on the better of the days, HORRIBLE PREP, and gas would be the last factor in my opinion. you have to pay to play , with the higher prices just means i drive the beater car more

NED hasn't been too bad. Last friday night they were using all of the lanes later in the evening to handle the test & tune cars. But the stands were empty. I remember there being more people just coming to watch in the last couple years.

The cost of hauling a trailered car to the track w/either a gas or diesel powered tow vehicle for someone running the NHRA or IHRA eliminator classes every, or almost every wknd. is what I was talking about--not the people who go once a month, or less. Plus, the drastic increases in the price of both leaded and unleaded race fuel, as well, have helped cut down the #'s of track entries.

I remember the good 'ole days back in 2000-2002 at etown were a GM High tech EFI event would attract 200-300 cars. Now that number is quite smaller, or so I've heard talking to Barry and Tommy. I honestly can't remember the last time I went to the track to race but having a home and a 5 month old keeps my weekends pretty packed.

I just went to ATCO to see the Mustang/Stormin' Norman event on Sat and there were EIGHT to TEN cars- period.
This is just another sport that's being legislated to death.. plus greedy track owners (E-Town) think nothing of keeping you wait HOURS between runs and charge SPECTATORS 15-20 bucks.

The gas prices certainly aren't helping any that I'm sure of... but I am also sure that the reason the spectator crowd os down is the gas prices/entry fees to spectate as stated above..... it'e getting expensive just to go watch these days, kinda sucks IMO.
fwiw last weekeend I went to MIR, it cost me 4 fillup's at roughly 55 bucks a fill, and 158 bucks in tolls to get there and back
The 220 bucks in gas sucks... but to pay THAT much in tolls... is bannanas.

There are ways around all those tolls with a trailer, maybe next time you head down that way, Ill map you out a route to avoid the tolls. I know what it's like

. My truck gets roughly 11mpg with a trailer, no matter what it is.
I still don't understand why anyone would buy an 8.1 (454-ls-based) to haul with. Why not just get a diesel. Not like its unavailable in the NE.
