Mid-Sized Trucks.. POLL
Help me out here... I need opinions.
When my lease is up on the F-150, I'm thinking of getting a new truck.
BUT- I want to get a mid-sized 4x4 with the biggest motor (HP & TQ) with a true crew cab (4 doors, real rear seat) with a short bed.
The Ford Ranger is out- no real seat in the back and it's a tired design.
The Dodge Dakota comes with a 4.6L V8, but with the usual Dodge quality issues -and- who knows who owns them anymore.
The Nissan Frontier "Nismo" looks good.. but pricey.
The Toyota Tacoma (official truck of the Taliban & Somalian "Technicals) also looks good, but the priciest of the bunch.
The GM product looks competitive (the GMC Canyon & Colorado) but the 5 cylinder is a big question and the interiors are just hoo-hum.

Even the 5 cylinder Colorados/Canyons aren't too bad, I rode in a base RWD 4 cylinder 5 speed and it was still tight as drum at over 30k miles, strong trucks indeed.

i'd buy gm first, if i had my arm twisted, i'd buy the **** box toyota. i hate them but they are dead reliable.
if the taliban can use them only a daily basis to launch rpg attacks and run like cowards (and get away most of the time), that's saying something. you know they aren't in the middle of a firefight with an apache chasing them and shouting at each other because they are 200 miles past the oil change due date.

Dodge Dakota- A friend of mine drives one and I will say that it is one of the cleanest, sharpest trucks I've seen in a while.
Nissan Frontier- Haven't really heard anything or had any experience with.
Toyota Tacoma- My dad traded his F-150 in on one and I will say it is one of the nicer trucks I've drove has a good bit of pep to it plus with the hood scoop makes it really stand out.
GM Colorado/Canyon- Test drove one for a few days I absolutley hated the interior of it maybe it's just where I'm a bigger guy but it was horrible

i have an 05 colorado. the interior is fine. comfortable enough for me, and i have a somewhat bad back. plenty of room for me and stuff/gear. controls are easy and within reach. i dont know why people gripe about domestic interiors. theyre most all fine to me, what the hell is so wrong with them?
also, if you get the new I5, its a bigger motor then the one i got. another 20 horse and 20 torque or so. a V8 would be very nice though. i dont like dodges, and id never, ever, ever buy any kind of jap truck/car.

Nice work Marc.
This truck looks very Hot.
"And just last year another Colorado V8 went to SEMA. The Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab Z71 Plus Concept was a heavily disguised look at the powertrain we're expecting production Colorados to receive next year, though the Plus Concept had a more powerfully tuned version of the 5.3-liter V8 capable of 320-hp and paired with a heavy duty 4L65 four-speed automatic."

toyota is the land of the ticky tack little annoying defects, otherwise a good truck if you don't mind a few rattles. there is also that little thing about cams snapping in half to wonder about, most cases reported have been in V8 equiped vehicles, but a few of the 6bangers have suffered as well
the nissan is an over priced POS, treat it like the herp and just stay away.
the colorado/canyon are the best dollar for dollar value in the class in terms of features, insurance, warranty(gm 100k powertrain), and fuel economy, then again they prolly have the worst styling in the history of the catagory too.
the dakota is prolly the best balance of value and styling, also has the best payload rating when equiped with the V8(don't worry, the V6 and V8 get almost the same mileage). the dodge also has insurance ratings very close to the GM offerings.
i work next to one of the largest car dealerships on the east coast and i get very bored during lunch, this is why i know all this crap. lol

I love GM, but the Dakota feels a LOT more rugged than the Colorado. Also, the 05+ Dakota's ride pretty nice for a truck, and the build quality is much better than the previous generation.

there's a guy at coloradofans.com running about a 14.7 in the 1/4 with a crewcab 5cyl; that's pretty darn good considering there's no aftermarket for these trucks. i have owned 2 colorados and both were awesome. just avoid the pre-2007's; they have been known to start misfiring due to a poor head design. the later 2006's are okay (redesigned head), the only way to tell is the vin and i'm not sure where the good ones start. your best bet is the 2007 2.9 4cyl (185 hp) or the 3.7 5cyl (242 hp). if you want a stick, you'll have to get the 2.9l. my current truck is a 2007 colorado reg cab 4cyl 5spd with 3.73 gears, and it is pretty darn quick for a stock 4-banger; i've beat quite a few s10 4.3's.
as far as price goes, i picked my 2007 up for under $14k, and it gets 28mpg on the highway if i stay under 60.

I've had 4 dodge trucks and haven't had any issues with any of them, I know I have heard about this problem and that problem but I have never had any of it. I had a 2000 dakota as well, had a drunk not taken it out I would have had it for alot longer then I did I loved that truck. 4.7 v8 in that trck and it moved real good.
I would never, never buy a nissan anything.... if it's not bad enough that they are a jap car company, they are partially owned by pougot, or however you spell it.... so not only is nissan a jap car company, they're partially owned by a french car company... that's the worst of the worst.
Toyota, reliable, but again jap car company, you will never see one in my driveway
Colorado, once they start putting a v8 in that will be hard to beat period.
