'Da Twistiez' my ***....Z06 OWNZ > imports
Check it out kids!

if you don't get Car & Driver, its worth it to check it out at the food store when you get a chance.
Basically the Z06 bitchslaps a bunch of much more expensive competition.
And not just in a straightline either.
To summarize, here are the lap times. Check out the Z06, it beats the GT3 and downright destroys the 911 TT. For all the abuse the Ford camp takes of the GT500 and its hefty curb weight and solid read axle, look at its times! The $40k GT500, all 4000 lbs and solid axle of it, is just a tenth of a second behind the Porsche 911 turbo. And do we even want to discuss what happens with a tiny amount of money into each car? The GT500 and the Z06 can both be made significantly faster for a small amount of money. The only other car on this list that can say that is the 335I which for all its BMW handling/braking trails the GT500 by FIVE seconds. The Lotus is quick, of course its an 1800 lb go-cart. Other then the Lotus even the base C6 left everyone else in the dust sans the GT3. I love reading how American cars can't handle meanwhile 3 of the top 7 are American and all are much cheaper then their European competition. How many times do we read about how great the Z4 M coupe is? Too bad it gives up SIX 6 seconds to the damn GT500 and EIGHT seconds to the base C6. To put that in perspective Mazda's little FDW hatchback Speed 3 which can be had for $23k is les then five seconds slower then the big bad M Coupe. So the M coupe is a better match for a $23k wrong-wheel-drive hatchback then it is for a $40k GT500 or a base C6 thats around $45k I guess.
To sum this up, the Z06 cleaned house, and it took basically a race car (the GT3) to keep the regular C6 out of 2nd place. The regular C6 beat an 1800lb Lotus with no creature comforts at all, busted the Audi R8's *** and left the 911 turbo behind. How many $100k cars can a $45k Chevy embarass?

Imagine how impressive the lap times would have been if you had slapped on the same tires for all competitors? Give the Z06 the same race compound tires as the GT3 and it would have hauled *** even more, may 2-4 seconds quicker than it ran.
Even though GM's sales numbers are tanking, their chassis, engine, and suspension people know what they are doing.

A pretty easy way to tell what can outhandle what on a short turning course is to look at the stock SCCA autox car classifications. The list of classes from fastest to slowest is something like (guessing at this specific moment at what PAX index is for each class) SS, AS, BS, CS, ES, FS, DS, GS, HS
The corvette is a pretty popular car in autox with the professionals. Even the C4 is still pretty competitive in AS

yeah put some R tires like the lotus and GT3 used (michelin pilot sport cups?), onto the two vettes and that would have been even more interesting to view. To make that article even better though I wish they would have also used the shorter, tighter VIR north course. The grand (full) course they used definitely benefitted the c6's.
and to make it even more interesting, they should have used the mid cylce refreshed C6 with the LS3 motor making 30 HP more than the LS2 they tested.

i was gonna compare the times to karts, but then i realized they ran a different configuration to make it 4.2 miles. the original full track is 3.27.

But then again isn't it sad that the foreign cars need excuses and need a small tight track just to compete with cars costing half as much.

It's always great when domestic beats imports, but I also enjoyed the fact that the '07 Z06 was the 1st car to have a sub-3 minute lap time, beating the lap time of last year's winner, the Fort GT.

Of course the pax index system isn't totally perfect. Each class has a few cars that are dominant over the others in their own class. The Z06 is actually one of them in SS.
