Default First time at the track

I was expecting a lot better as I'm sure everyone does their first time out. My car is an auto 98 with longtube's, y-pipe, catback, and a lid. I ran a best of 13.6 at 102mph

And my 2 worst time's.

The first run I ran 13.7 with a 2.1 60ft, and then a 13.8 with a 2.3 60 ft, then my third run I ran a 14.0, now by this time, I was so upset I was ready to throw in the towel, I went again and ran a 13.9, and then someone broke down which killed enough time for the sun to come down. Once the sun came down I ran my 13.645 and then a 13.614 and then they closed the track.

It was very hot yesterday, but the most frustrating thing was not being able to hear or see through my helmet if my tire's were spinning.

Don't worry about your times... you were racing at LVD on a very hot day. It doesn't get any worse than that unless your out west at a high alt track. Your mph is showing you weren't making much power in that heat and your 60' needs a little work, but it's not bad.

Go to atco this fall or even NED in cool dry weather and you'll be amazed how much faster you run.

Least I am safe 12.9 @ 109

I ran there on a 109 degree day, it was Jannetty's drag day, JL and CHef was there with IntenSS and it was CRAZY hot, I was 13.1 boy all day long

LVD is the house pool cue, all fucked up and bent out of shape, if you an do well with this, you can do well anywhere.

Hey give me a month or so to even the playing field, lol. Damn auto robs too much power...and I think I need tire's, but I honestly couldn't tell if I was spinning or not. Next time I go I won't wear the helmet the first time and try to see if I can see or hear my tire's spinning or not.

With my mph it seems like the car just isn't making the power, I think I really need that cam more than I thought, or atleast the ls6 intake and tune.

Bah, that Heat kills the DA, dont looks at the time slips of people who run at the NY tracks or even NH. They get better mph on average, its just a typical hot summer day in LVD. Go in the fall and see how much it improves. As your 60 foot shows, I cant tell if your spinning or just not getting hard enough on it. I suspect though spinning.

Hey is your car tuned with your mods? I'm wondering if a tune will help much with bolt on's or if it's not worth it and might as well just wait till I get the cam.

actually yes I did. Forgot to put it back in when the sun came down and it got cooler. Could that have hurt me? I heard it helps with the air filter out?

I just forgot all about it, I meant to only take it out for the first few passes, but once it turned dark I was just anxious to go again and get as many passes as I could...only got 2 more, but they were my best runs of the night, which still sucked...

No the car isnt tuned, yet, but I am working on the clutch before I even consider going back. As for the filter, it doesnt amount to much, if its a drop in K&N they are just about as good. My bud just had his 96 LT1 t/a dynoed, it amounted to like a 1/2 hp diff in bone stock form.

Removing the air filter doesn't help at all.Well, unless the tune sucks.

Since you do not have a tune make sure you clean the mass air and put in about 2 gallons of 104+ octain gas. I'm sure your car is knocking like a ***** down the track like most stock 98 Cars(thank the new gas).

I think I will get a tune before I go again, after the ls6 intake get's put on, to make sure I'm not too lean or too rich, I'm wondering if it's nocking and pulling timing because of it? I'll try to work on lowing my e.t before I get the cam.

If you 're serious abotu getting a cam... get a converter first, and depending on what gears are in the car, change that too. Try to get the bolton stuff done so that way when a cam does go in it won't be choked by the intake, exhaust, etc.etc.

Shoot me a PM if ya need to get pointed in the right direction.

As soon as I get that ls6 intake installed I will def. pm you and/or give you guys a call.
