Christmas is coming up and I am considering moving up to a next generation consol. I dont play as much as I used to but I have been itching to try out the new stuff. I have played 360 quite a few times and its fun. I am not big into online play so its not a major consideration.
What I am looking for is opinions of people who have them, or have used them enough to warrent an opinion. Gaming sites are blocked at work so I cant really do research here. And what reviews ive seen, I honestly have to take like a grain of sand.
I made a list for a comparision but please feel free to add to it.....
Price wise now the systems are getting very close. 360 still has a slight edge due to 2 games in a bundle and slightly bigger HD (80GB vs 125GB).

As for reliability, ive seen mixed reviews for both, nothing concrete to show anyone is a clear winner.
As for game selection, there isnt much of a gap even though 360 came out sooner. Techincally it has more but it should be expected with the early release, here is whats out and whats coming out. If you click the box next to the release date at the top of the colum it will list it chronologically. Also alot of games NOT exclusive so buying a system for a specific game isnt a valid reason.

Controllers: Standard PS2 w/o rumble vs the Bigger, Boxier 360. I think PS3 left it alone with good measure.
DISCUSS!!

This will probably get locked and pushed to SSU......
Anyways I have a PS3 and have played the 360 a few times. I got the PS3 for a few reasons over the 360. There are infact exclusive game titles which make a difference to me. Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Tekken, GTA4 (maybe), Gran Tourismo 5.
The PS3 has a lot more overhead to grow in my opinion, and it will as developers learn how to code for it and use the hardware it has. Most of the games that initially came out for it were ported over and not optimized. At the time I got it I also thought Blu-Ray would be the format king, It's still up in the air, but atleast it's plays HD movies without buying the $150 add on. One other plus for HD buffs, PS3 support 1.3 HDMI and 1080p/24 which is the hyped up 120hz output and full range color.
When I bought my PS3 I got it for a smoking deal so that helped, also the 360's at the time were blowing up after 6 month, I think they fixed that now. The PS3 has the option to upgrade the hardrive and they even tell you how to do it in the manual. I find myself using the PS3 often for ripping CD's to mp3 and displaying photos or video on my tv quite often.
As far as games go, 360 has been around a bit longer and developement is not as propriatery as the PS3. You rally can't go wrong with either system if you just wanna play games. Soon enough there will be plenty of titles on both system, for now 360 does have the most. playing current games there is not much difference is quality between the systems. However I think the PS3 will pull away in the future and have a longer lifespan than the 360. When Sony builds a console they want it to stick around, Look how long the PS2 has been around and it's still one of the best consoles ever.
I vote PS3, but don't get me wrong I like the 360 too and would get both in $ allowed. Like I said both a good systems, and you will enjoy either one. I do have a friend trying to sell his 360 after coming over and playing on my PS3, so if you're interested I might have a hookup on the 360.
I currently have:
Fight Night 3
Rainbow 6 Vegas
COD4
Dirt
All of which are good games and all of which you can get on 360, so for me it's basically the anticipated titles, and the beefier hardware along with blu-ray support that sold me. It's also rumored to possibly support DVR in the future.
* I do prefer the PS controller better too

Here's a bit of super nerdness
I can setup my PSP at work on Wifi and stream my collected audio from my PS3 at home to play through an RSS feed. You can even control the PS3 remotely and watch videos on the PSP, amongst other things. I don't really use that option much though. Just kinda a neat trick.
You can also run Linux on the PS3, and has media server capabilites to connect with you're home PC quite easily.
These guys used a PS3 w/ linux to control the AI for this automated vehicle ( how badass is that)

I forget to mention that it upconverts regular DVD's too.
Oh Assasins Creed is coming out too which looks good. Heavenly Sword is a fun game with lots of eye candy as well.

My brother and a few friends all have PS3 since the 1st 2-3 weeks that its been out and they all love it. The price seems to be coming down on it too. They are starting to throw in free blu-ray offers and game offers with some of them. You cant beat the price when you consider that its a game console as well as a blu-ray dvd player (that are selling for $900-$1k alone). Not to mention that you can surf the web on them.

Right now I would get a 360 and put off the PS3 for a few years, at least until they get some of those exclusive titles out and maybe the price will go down a little more.
i have owned a ps3 and i now have a 360. i think the 360 is better but im not sure what would constitute my decision. i think the gameplay is ALOT better. i think the 360 is actually more future set, because it is alot easier to upgrade. the PS3 is an overpriced PS2 with HDMI capabilities. the online gameplay sucks ( i know that isnt a factor in your decision) and now that they have worked out the bugs with the 360, it is alot more solid, and the upgrades are endless. it is a more customizable to the player. JUST MY OPINION. i do think the PS3 is still a great system, but i would buy the 360 if i could go back and make the buy again

I would disagree with some of those statement. It's not easier to upgrade, You cannot even change the hardrive without voiding your warranty on the 360. If you read the specs on the hardware you will also find that the potential of the cell processor makes the PS3 more future proof. It's not like in either system you can go in and change the CPU/RAM/or GPU.
If the PS3 is a PS2 with HDMI, thats like saying the 360 is an Xbox w/ HDMI (If you buy the high dollar one). Both systems are leaps and bounds above their predecesors. Customization is negligible, as far as games go. As far as multimedia goes I think Sony takes that crown so far.
Online play, well I'll admit the microsoft platform does deliver a nice online interface with more players. I have played a few PS3 games online and have had no problems myself, solid frame rates and no crashing, what else could you ask for?
Play both yourself and buy the one with the games that you like. When it comes down to it you should be happy w/ either.

I think the PS3 is more futer set, just think of how much more data can fit on a blue ray disk as opposed to a DVD or eve an HD DVD.
Sony has a lot of time, money, and development into the PS3. I think when they build a system they plan on keeping it for quite a while. THe quality of the games on the PS2 kept me happy enough to skip buying a X-box, and i am sure this upcoming year we will start to see some kick *** games like the ones I mentioned in my 1st post. Plus using a Nvidia GPU, you know that it's got another big company behind it driving development.
yeah it may last longer, but it will be outdated too. technology has already advanced past ps3. the xbox may be maxed out...but it has ways to upgrade to future compnents. PS3 does not.
honestly, i would like to have both....just cos there are things both systems offer that i like. personally, for me, i think they xbox360 beats ps3. i owned a ps3 for 9 months before selling it. got a 360 and have alrteady played it more and had more fun than i did on my ps3. i cannot put my finger on it, but i just like 360 better.

As far as upgrading goes how would you infact upgrade the 360? There is nothing you can do to increase performance on either system really.
