Default Comp r lifters = JUNK...

I know some of u had good luck with them but we sure didnt..Killed 2 of them in Steve's LT1 car and we had them adj. correctly. They would not take 7000 rpm too kindly..

Good thing is the shortblock isnt hurt...
180 psi in all holes and only 3% leakdown so that good news..

Engine it apart and waiting for the cam to come from Comp.
We also went with the Crane Solid Rollers for the LT1,nice piece...

We went with a small solid roller but a little bigger than the old hyd roller
Specs are (244-250 585-591)

Lorenzo from fast flow is finishing up the Victor Jr as I write this post and will be getting it back from him by next wed....Cam,gaskets will be here by wed too as will the new lifters...

Next Sat. the engine is getting put back together and within 2 weeks its getting retuned and hit with nitrous....

Car will be at Atco the 1st week it opens up....

Unless you got a Comp R from 2003 and back its junk. A Set of Morels will do him nice if he stayed hyd roller.

And alot of people will say they never had problems with Comp R'sLuckilly I work on alot of different cars and see different problems. Would still prefer the Morels over Comp R's though.

Sorta like 918's before the revisement, the manufacuture changed and the quality went to hell. Anything before 2003 was fine but that quite a # of years ago now.

I never heard this before?

So let me get this right....

Are you guys saying that the Old Comp-R's are good and the new ones are junk?

Shouldn't it be the other way around...in other words they were junk but now they have fixed the problems?

If what you are saying is true, what is the best Hyd. Roller lifter to get?

How are the GM Racing lifters used in the CTSV-R road race car?

Thanks

I built my 383 back in the Spring of 2003 and while doing the research, at the time they really only had Comp cam replacement lifters and the Comp R's, there was not a issue with the older ones. At least nothing documented.

BUt that that time Comp had already ceased production on that lifter and was in process of finding a new manufacture where I couldnt even buy a set of the old one with out doing some heavy searching. I was running a VERY mild hotcam (emission reasons) and standard replacements worked quite fine.

Here is a timeline for you from what I had researched back 5 yrs ago....

Pre-2003 Comp R's = Good
2004-2006 Comp R's = Junk

As for any revisements, I havent researched it, I havent ran a LT1 getting close to 2 years.

At the time I put a custom Bret Baur cam in where him and Lloyd recommended the Morels and they had worked fine.

The NEWER LSX lifters had not been avalible but it seems they they are the new rage, they can handle alot of spring pressure and are cheaper then Morels (500+).

What I am saying is you should do some research in the LT1 forum here or over on cz28.com for the caddy lifters.

I like this newer Crane replacement.
Same length as the stocker, goes in using the existing LT1 hardware too...

I like the LS7 replacement lifters.Under $120 a set and work perfect. Thats what we use on all hydrilic motors running under .650 lift and 7000rpm.

Slowhawk,

That is a good idea.
I am still running my stock lifters and am just waiting for them to fail.
My limiter is set at 6800 rpm. (I shift my 4L60-E at 6,500)
So those will probably be fine for me.
My lift is no where near .650 either.

I have an LS1 car.

Is this post about LS1 roller lifters or LT1 rollers?
(JS referred to LT1 several times now?)

Thanks
