Default 02SCVette almost done!!!

continuation of this thread,
https://ls1tech.com/forums/eastern-members/840922-somebody-stole-02scvette-s-wheels.html

We got just about everything done, just gotta fill and bleed the brakes and clutch, throw the plugs and wires on, shifter, and fill the IC with fluid. Hopefully all goes well tomorrow when we start it. I'll get some video of the initial start.

Here's some current pics

Give Mike a dremel and a wire brush and he's a polishing fool, A arms, rear end, alternator, etc.

We all learned a lot doing this, pretty fun too.

Closest feeling I'll ever have to having a kid. It's been a lot of fun. Thanks for lending a hand Danno.

When you get it running don't let it idle forever.Get load on it to seat the rings.

Don you recommend just driving it up and down the street slowly a bit?

No,drive it normal. If you idle a longtime or drive like a complete fart that will give a higher risk of never seating the rings.

Looks great mike. Sure feels good to pour the fluids in and not have them run all over the floor dont it. Big thing with seating rings is to decel as much as accel. You want to load things both ways. good luck with it.

Thats very big. It's sad to say but I've had a few customers come in last year with new motors they did and the rings were washed down. Most of them just let the car idle on stands without being tuned.Atleast Mikes car is just a rebuild with the same parts so the tune should be close enough.

It's alive!!!!!!! Damn does it sound good! Turned over right away too. I let it idle 2-3 minutes so we could check for leaks - none found. Then varried the rpms betrween 1700-2500 for about 20 minutes and drained the oil. I plan on running it a couple hundred miles varrying the load but try to stay out of full boost and then change the oil out again.

Don, how many miles should I put on it before I swing by to have you tweak the tune? 500 maybe?

It sure is nice hearing the slight lope and Maggie with no more damn ticking + blowby gasses!

I'm not sure on the track yet Todd. I'll get there this year but I want to put some miles on it first.

Don, his heads have a mild port and 3 angle valve job now as well, plus with no more blow by I would assume his tune is a bit on the lean side. Is he still safe to break it in as is? As long as he ain't out beating it and just does a few gradual 3rd or 4th gear pulls to about 5,000k or so?

Should be fine. The blow by should only affect WOT.The Vette self learns pretty good.

Here is the video

Starting the Vette

Kinda a boring 6-7 minutes, but atleast you can see and hear it. Towards the end the car started sounding real nice.

Don't you love how loud new motors are on first start up?

Oh yeah, plenty of noise at S/U. I was expecting it though with the new lifters. It settled in pretty good though. It sounds 100% better after the rebuild for sure.

Hey Keith. Yeah, not a very cool sound at first but there's not much you really can do that I know of. Filter was filled with oil to make it a little quicker at least. Danno took on that honor.

Saturday is looking good weather wise so I'm hoping to put on 100-200 miles and get a good load on it.
