they're gonna be on the bottom of the computer. It should say service tag and express service code. If it doesn't then its a set of numbers and letters 7 digits long or the express service code which will be just numbers which is 11 digits long.

Damn, your warranty is over and we can't send out any discs. You can buy them from Dell but I think its like $11. If you know someone or someone on here has a Windows XP SP2 disc that you can borrow from a Dell computer it will work just fine. But also try the CTRL + F11 as soon as you see the Dell splash screen when the computer starts up

you might have to try it a couple times. I hardly ever works on the first try. If nothing happends still then you're gonna have to use the discs. And just to make sure you need to hold CTRL and F11 at the same time. Try tapping them at the same time as well

What exactly are you doing when this error happens? What program are you running and is your computer up to date with the latest service pack? Is there an error number you can give me? No need to go to restore or format yet.

your best offer as denoted by a dell guy below and if it is the correct dell xp cd you might not even need to input the COA ..if as you say you're only losing your **** collection...

sometimes it trys working then stops again

The Error message reads this:

svchost.exe - application error

The instruction at "0x75606e6a" referenced memory at "0x0000000008", the memory could not be "read". click ok to terminate program.
