Default anyone do side work......south Florida....

I'll go to a tranny shop if I have to...but maybe somene needs/wants to make some side cash.

I need my tranny lowered or dropped, whatever....so I can have a welder come to weld my broken starter mount back on. Then put the tranny back.

Anyone? The best price I got so far is $250.00 just for the labor to drop it and put it back. If your a badass aluminum welder you can do that too if you want to.

I can tow it anywhere in SF.....you would need the lift.

No...lol

The stater housing broke on the other side where the good mount is. As I was removing the bolt from the other side where the break is that piece just fell off. So when the starter broke as I was trying to start the engine, it torqued away from the flywheel and broke that mount.

Wow, that happened to a cast iron 396 I had back in the day. It was the outside bolt, and the casting broke right off as I was tightening it, taking 180 degrees of the threaded part of the block edge with it.
I was 16 at the time, and have never tightened an outside bolt first again since that horror show!
Had to weld in a stud. Slide the starter up on that, then install the inner bolt.
Took a while playing around with it, but ithe starter finally meshed with the clutch type flywheel well enough to properly work.

Well enough atleast until I threw a rod thru the lower block and part of the oil pan on a 1-2 shift.
Hey, Old 2 bolt main bowtie bigblocks don't like more than around 6200-6500 r's, but the solid cams & square port heads put on them, will make 'em sing to over 7 G's....lol

Hopefully Erik or Josh at LashWay,can hook you up on a good deal.

That's a pretty common failure. The insurance company will total the car over that if it's an older one, but it can definately be fixed. If they do it right it might not even need a helicoil.

Hmmm, interesting. So if they totalled it and paid me whatever amount.....what would they do with the car?

IfI did something like that I'd definitely have to strip all the good stuff off the car.....

Hell, the engine internals are quite nice too.

A welder came over this morning and welded the broken piece back on in 30 minutes. Ran a tap through it and bam....done. $200.00 labor.

Sumbitch, it was $200, typo.

But still...considering I didn't have to tow it anywhere or drop the tranny or touch the LT's......very good deal.
