Space shuttle lauch this Friday (5/14)
Just wondering if anyone else here is going? Liftoff is scheduled for May 14 at 2:20 p.m. It's the last flight of the shuttle Atlantis.
Only two more launches left, next is the Discovery in September, then the Endeavor is last to go in November. After that, the shuttles are getting decommissioned. From what I've read so far, the Atlantis is getting scrapped, and the Endeavor will likely be donated to the March Field Air Museum is Riverside, CA, and Discovery will be donated to the Smithsonian Institute to replace the Shuttle Enterprise exhibit.
After the shuttle program has ended, NASA will be working for the next 2 years for preparation of the replacement Constellation Program, that is, as long as it's not canceled.
Wasn't sure if you guys were on the up and up about this stuff, so I though I would fill yall in. I'm planning on making it to the launch this Friday, and the final 2 after that. Was wondering if anyone else was going to try to make it?

I won't be going down there, but I will sit out on the beach and watch it. I missed the last one by a few minutes last time. I had to work from 11pm to 7am and didn't even know it was going off. I walked out on the patio / beach and saw a funny smoke pattern in the sky. Then one of the girls I work with told me the shuttle went off.

This is the location I'm going to try to make it to, hoping to make it there early to get a good parking spot considering how small the park is. It's the next best place to view the launches.

The absolute best place to view the launches is here on the NASA causeway:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...45447&t=h&z=15
But you have to buy tickets to go there, which are already sold out and sell out really fast. If you're wondering where to go to see this countdown clock (as in the movies):
It's at the Kennedy Space Center, which also requires you to purchase an admission ticket, which are also sold out. In the future, if any of you would like tickets to these locations, you can purchase them here:
http://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/sp...g-tickets.aspx
I didn't think about that ahead of time, otherwise I would be going to the causeway.
