Orlando speed world in trouble/closing?
In a concerted effort to work collaboratively with the County and residents of South Chase, the Central Florida Racing Complex has effectively ceased all drag racing at the complex until final determination of the Board of County Commissioners. The hearing before the Board of County Commissioner will be on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Please come and show your support for the Central Florida Racing Complex. Contact Track Manager Vinny Barber at 407-812-4004, to let him know if you plan to attend and to get a Support Our Track T-Shirt. You may also contact your local County Commissioner or Mayor at the following if you feel strongly that drag racing on our local track and our educational programs make a real difference in curtailing illegal
street racing:
It sounds like the samething that happened to Jacksoville and other tracks.

We need to pack the hearing with racers in support of the track.

CFRC is not Orlando Speed World... But yes OSW is closing at the end of the year. Hopefully somebody will buy it and actually run it properly. That place has gone downhill so much in recent years, I'm surprised it lasted this long. As far as CFRC goes, who cares. I've been there twice and that place is complete garbage IMO. Chaotic, unorganized, and the crowd there sucks.
As far as I'm concerned, it's well worth the 2 hour drive to Gainesville. More runs and better track prep!

I've talked with Carl Weisenger, the owner of OSW, a few weeks ago. He was not 100% on closing yet. His lease expires at the end of 2012, with a 1 year option to renew. He's asking for a decent amount to sell his equipment,, and might not get it this year. He has the right to refuse any deal with the owner of the property, to change its use.
I am personally looking into doing something with OSW , but probably won't happen this year.
CFRC is a POS, and the crowd sucks.

I have been to cfrc, and thought it was a nice facility. but this was over a year ago and I have never run there. but from what I saw their prep wasn't done very well. as far as OSW, I haven't heard any good things about that place in a long time. I kinda hope it goes through the same transformation lakeland has gone through. from being a garbage track that not even the locals want to run at, to now attracting regional and national events. I know of a local car that was recently destroyed because of OSW's lack of prep and terrible racing surface

It really does suck that both tracks are in trouble either way. I have been to both tracks and like them both. All tho I would rather race the 1/4 then the 1/8. It's not always the tracks fault with prep issues. They both need to have real tech inspections and keep the cars that aren't track worthy off the racing surface. Nothing like watching parts fall of or fly off for that matter, and I've seen both happen from the imports and the domestics. And then the good old launch of the car to watch sand and dirt fly out from the wheel wells. I've been to both tracks and people were complaining about prep, and I stand my car on the bumper. Like I said, either way it sucks.....

Yep, don't need to be losing any tracks in Florida. Had several racers that I know run Orlando come up to Gainesville / Auto-Plus this past Saturday, and a few told me it doesn't look promising for Orlando to run next year. Hopefully someone/a group will get on it and keep the track alive.

Carl is the reason OSW has declined over the years. He did YOU a favor by letting you run a car there, not by patronizing the business. Basically that kind of attitude towards racers and spectators.

The whole wal mart rumor is false wal Mart bought joes truck parts out there and are buying the junkyard next to joes and are gonna build a center there they will be open next year is what I was just told, though they do need cooperation from new symerna speedway to get more big events. So I'm guessing they need cooperation from the heart family who own both property's
