My Malmute died in kennels care
I had a great weekend in Atlanta at my sisters wedding. During that time I had my dog boarding with Animal Medical Center, Brandon. This was his third time there and I thought nothing of it, when I left him there for 5 days. He was happy, and howling, paws up on the counter (big 124lb puppy)
I get back yesterday, eager to pick him up and the vet calls to say he had a heart attack!! The **** you say? I told him this kind of news is best delivered in person and I would be in shortly.
I am an Army disabled vet, and I want to think, I have seen a lot, done a lot and can take a hell of a lot...but seeing my dog on the table, a mere shell, blank stare and tongue lolled; I lost it man.
I told them they had better get to the bottom of this. How can a 2 3/4 year old Alaskan Malamute built to last, just up and die. The necropsy was inconclusive...meaning he looked fine...so no one knows. The hardest part for me, I thought was breaking it to my 12 year old daughter, but no, it was telling my wife deployed to Baghdad, via Skype that the dog who howled and lost it every time she came home, would no longer be there to greet her. When she lost it, I lost it. I am not even sure I want another dog. I have no defense for this kind of loss. Sorry for the vent, but it's been less than 24 hrs and my teeth are grinding.

Oh wow, that is a terrible loss.....
Our 3 dogs are older (10, 11 and 13 yrs) and what happened to you is our greatest fear when my gf and I go out of town.....
My Condolences
regarding getting another dog...... the vacuum will feel huge. After a few weeks you will want to adopt another dog. My only suggestion is to wait. Wait until your wife is home from her deployment so that you can adopt a dog as a family.
It is also good to wait, as you will find yourself always comparing the new pup to the old and that isn't fair to the new pup.....
Again, my condolences from my family to yours

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I hd a Border Collie from the time I was 5/6 and he had to finally be put down when I was 21. Was one of the hardest times in my life. It's hard say good bye even more sore in a situation such as yours.
I'd give it some time and then you'll be ready for another pup.

That sucks, sorry for your loss. Took me over two years in between dogs, unbelievable how attached you can get.
I use Bloomingdale Animal Hospital several times a year. Dog never wants to go in and is always happy to leave so I'm sure there's not a whole lot of interaction but never worst for wear either. Weight seems pretty steady coming and going. I normally have them give her a bath on the way out but have picked her up so early in the morning that they didn't have a chance and she didn't smell bad.

That is very sad & I am also sorry for your loss. It does seem od as the dog was not even 3 years old? A heart attack? A friend of mine just lost his bull terrier after almost 13 years. Stay strong brother.
