Default Lakeland drag strip

Anyone go out there? Just curious how many runs you can expect to get in and such. I'm not huge on track conditions as this would be my 3rd time to a track, I'm sucking regardless. Just wondering if its stupid packed or not, nothing has put a bad taste in my mouth since the first time I went to Sunshine and paid $20 and got 2 runs in.

Sometimes its packed sometimes its not. I haven`t been out there since they reopened last month. I might go out there to practice my lights, Night of Fire is only 2 more weeks and my RTs have been crapy lately.

Thanks, I'm still thinking about if I'm going or not. We do get to set the clocks back a hour tonight, guess that means that makes up for some of the sleep I will miss if I go out there.
It sucks working on Sundays.

Thumbs up

If you go to Lakeland Sat, tonight, look for where Corvettes are parked near the tower. Ask for Glen or talk to Dan driving a black 93 Corvette. They are trying to put together an F-body series at Lakeland. Glen will put together a race class to help anyone wanting to improve their performance; all you have to do is participate in the series. He is track champion at two different tracks and knows his stuff. If you can't make it tonight, look for future posts on the proposed series. Maybe one of the guys will chime in with more info.

I spoke with the Track Owner/Operator Thursday evening, regarding the possibility of his track hosting a monthly Corvette Series in '08, as-well-as separate Series for F-bodies, Mustangs, and MoPars, too:
he said we can do this if we want, so I am trying to round-up Corvette & F-body owners who'd like to do this (I'm a GM-guy, new-to Florida, and don't know many Mustang/MoPar owners, so if YOU do, please make them aware of this project ).

We'd run Saturday afternoons, before the 'regular' Saturday evening crowd shows-up, on specific weekends when Bradenton Motorsports Park and Orlando Speed World aren't open, so-as to attract the most cars possible for each-class:
I'll be in the pits with my Red K1500-Sportside, or hanging-out with the guy in the Black '93 C4, wearing a Bright Yellow ball-cap, and I'll print-up some fliers to hand-out at the track.

LMP Management isn't sure how-many cars will turn-out tonight for their Grand Re-Opening, but they seemed to move-along quickly Thursday evening for test-and-tune.

Yep looks like I will be out there tonight. I'm hoping for a 13 second timeslip, as I suck at leaving the line and am sitting around 14.4@103mph from my trip out to OSW a few months back.

With a good set of drag radials you will be well into the 13's. I run 14.2-3 at 95 MPH. You are losing way too much in your 60 foot time. Glen can offer suggestions on how to run smarter and get that 13 second ET.

..... with Lakeland being 'just' an 1/8-mile strip, I think you'd need to run about 8.85-or-quicker to be assured of running 13s in the 1/4:
I'm guessing your 660'-time was about 9.25 when you ran 14.40?

See you there!

Well guys I didn't make it. My friend that I was going with wasn't sure if he could run with a cracked windshield or not.

I know my 60 foot times are horrendous, in the 2.5-2.7 range.

I got there about 6pm to run TnT. Lucky for me they were running their first bracket race of the winter last night. The track is in great shape, very sticky , the clocks work, theres lots of new overhead lighting, theres a new timing system and christmas tree. There was a full field in Super Pro and only 16 cars in Sportsman/Street but there was some good racing.

I went to help Fuzzy Dice run his Black '93 in Sportsman-class, and we had a really-good pit space.....

until that guy showed-up, with the Yellow lawn-mower on crack who pitted in the MIDDLE of the return-road, and left his PoS running all night.

Between time-shots, we handed-out about 2 dozen fliers, announcing our intentions of having a once-a-month, afternoon Series at LMP in '08, to prospective Corvette, Mustang, F-body and MoPar racers, and I got this picture of him making a time-run, with the sun setting behind the circle-track:

Fuzzy raced the Summit Points Series at OSW this season, and did well, considering his car won't run the number back-to-back:
last-night was no-exception, as it ran between 8.84 and 8.94 in time-shots, ran 8.870 in winning Round #1, then slowed-down to an 8.922 on a 8.86 dial-in to become 2nd Round Runner-Up.

I guess you were the guy there with Dan I was in the GTO. Dans a nice guy I`ve raced with him for seveal years at OSW. There was also 3 other regulars from OSW there last night, Joe (black SS), James(green Chevelle), Eric(white/red S10) there all cool guys. Its always more fun to race with friends.

Yeah, I had the Yellow ball-cap and SUNOCO jacket on in the Staging Lanes with him..... unless I'm mistaken, didn't you have a pair of .01x RT and the car ran 8.01/8.02 back-to-back?

That was my first time at LMP for a race (moved from Taxylvania in late '06 ), and had I not been so-busy learning my way around the strip, I'd have gotten a picture of your GTO, too:
maybe I'm too-old, but I can't seem to call the late-model GTO a 'goat'.....

I attended a few races at OSW this year with Dan, and thought the Black Imp, Green Chevelle, and 2-tone S-10 looked-familiar:
do you know who won, and what was the purse?

Another Corvette-guy from OSW, Mike in the Red '79, didn't come because the drive would've killed his car (it has 3.73s and no O/D ):
I know the Series-sponsor of our Corvette Series at BMP spoke about allowing modern GTO to compete with the Vettes, as they are powered by LSx-equipment, before we got the boot.....
maybe a Corvette Series at LMP will be open to you as-well.

The 3 of them made it to the semi`s (worked out to be an odd # of cars) and they decided to split the pot 3 ways $175 each. James in the Chevelle won the final , he broke out by .017 but the S10 broke out by .041 in the final.
Yeah my Gto is very consistant but my driving is not. After having some good lights in qualifying best of .009 , I sucked in elims and went out 2nd round w/ .152 RT , 7.96 dial and a 7.981 run.

Does anyone know at what point they require you to wear a helmet there? I was thinking about riding over there on Saturday, but I don't have a helmet and hate to risk wasting a trip. I'm only running mid thirteens, high eights in the eighth.

..... my buddy with the '93 ran 8.80s without a brain-bucket, so.....

you can e-mail the track @

trish@lakelandmotorsportspark.com

tell 'Trish' you are considering racing in the Series we hope to run in '08 at LMP:
they seem very-interested in hosting this event.

I know that 17 November is Orlando Speed World's last-'GO' of the season, so many of that track's racers may use this-coming Saturday night as a test-and-tune session.
