Default 14.1 . . . i suck

yes thats right my best run of 3 was a measily 14.1 . . . to my defense this was really my first time drag racing and one run coulda been a high 13 second if i didn't roast the tires of the line. but basically i need alotta practice. details of run can be found here https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-racing-results/822382-wth-wrong.html . . . i suck . . . the end

Welllllll........... Do you drive through the water before you run LOL, just kidding. Run a diagnostic on the car, Get better tires, Heat the tires up good, and try again. You seem to have a good reaction time so you got that part covered(even though it has nothing to do with your 1/4 times).

yea its on 245s out back right now and i think spinning off the launch has alot to do with it because compared to other 14 second runs i have a higher trap speed. so i think if i can get it to hook i'd be at the standard mid 13 second runs. i hear lids are pretty good at helping too. i'm not gonna go crazy with the mods yet because i'm a poor college student and its my dd. i'd be happy wiht mid to low 13's with just a lid and some wider tires out back

get your 60' down and it will be a mid-high 13 sec car.

some gears, converter, and some other bolt-ons will put you in the 12's

Don't feel too bad, I'm running around 14.5@103mph. Hoping for high 13's Friday, but m 60 foot is even worse than yours at 2.6-7.

Don't feel bad, I know how you feel. My bird is still completely stock, I drag race her and have fun with her too. I have good times and bad times at the track. Anywhere from mid 13.'s to mid 14.'s, all depends
on the track temp and prep, anf if I'm on my game that day.
Remember not to heat up the tires too much, they will only get greasy and just spin off the line.
Like the old saying goes "Practice makes perfect". Good Luck in the future.

Plenty of good mentions above. I say it a lot, but we all have to start somewhere, and likely someone has done MUCH worse than you their first time out. Practice and learning what the car wants and what will get you the best timeslip can take numerous laps, but at least you'll be having fun racing!

I made a few suggestions in your drag racing section thread as well.

My tip is not to get the tires too hot on your burnouts. They only get greasy. Make it a short one, then try a dry hop before you pre-stage. Always check your tire pressures.

My brother in law did the following. 15.9 @ 117.

It happens. He did nothing but spin through 3 gears then bogged.

I agree with Villain281H. What he said in the drag racing section to you. I only stall up to 1000-1200RPM tops. and all my times have been on the stock 245/50/16s. You need not worry about the tire size right now, especially if you are broke. Just do the air lid or K&N filter or both and that should easily be enough. Good luck for next time.

Keep going to the track and get more seat time. You'll be impressed at how quickly you get good. (Practice launching on the street too )

I suck at drag racing even worse. Mine's built to be a mid 11 second car. Here have been my results both times at the track:

1st time ever drag racing at Bithlo on Nitto 275/40R/17's with cold tires/hot weather:

60' > 2.4x
ET > 13.47
MPH > 112.X

2nd time ever drag racing at Bithlo on MT 315/35R/17's with cold tires/hot weather:

60' > 1.70
ET > 12.214
MPH > 112.X

Not sure what happened the 2nd time out. Gaining 7/10th's on my 60 ft time didn't put me at more MPH and most say mine just doesn't have the power to pick up more at top end.

With new 1 7/8" primary American Racing headers (future goals) going on in a couple of weeks(currently have MAC-mids), I should get better topend and mph.

I figured if 8-sec cars are cutting 1.2x-1.3x 60' times on the same tires I had (MT 315/35R/17's) with about 1/2 the HP, I can get good 60' times with a 275 width ... bought lighter tires/wheels and dropped about 20 lbs of rotating mass, which should equal 100+ lbs of dropping dead weight.

I'll see if this helps me improve overall times and will let you know if you're interested. So, I suck worse than you considering all the work that's been done on my car. As most have said, either spin the tires just enough to get the grit off and launch real easy, OR, get some Drag Radials and do a smoke show and get behind a couple big slick cars and launch in their groove.

Don't feel bad, my car was a low 8 second 1/8 mile car, and I ran a 13.4 once. Spun through 1st and 2nd and coasted.
