Great news! What 60's you think you'll pull now?

Jeb, can you explain the main differences.

Hows the driveability?

Well, you never know 'til you get it to the track. I think 60' times will be low-mid 1.5's. With a few suspension adjustments, i believe I will pull 1.4's. Common sense tells me I should see a couple tenths on my 60', maybe 2-3 tenths ET improvement, and about 2 MPH on the big end. But, when I drove the care today, it just pulls and pulls and keeps pulling.

With the SS3600, example would be 2-3 shift was at about 6300-6400 rpm, rpm drop to about 5700-5800 and the tires nail the pavement and hit hard again. With the PT4000, 2nd gear hits what seems to be at about 6800-6900 rpm and instead of dropping off and losing momentum and then hitting the tires hard, it just hardly drops off at all and instead of jerking and picking up momentum again, it just 'transfers to 3rd and continues pulling hard without losing any momentum. That's about the best way I can explain. It just pulls and is a smoother shift with more pull.

As for driveabilty, I didn't notice too much difference from the SS3600. Some folks say it's sloppy around town, but, it felt great. I've heard you have to rev it to 1800 rpm just to get the car moving. That's simply not true. It's not as tight as the SS3600, but, it's not too much different, either.

As for track times, it feels like it's going to do better than most folks say it will. It made the car feel like the power was completely to the ground and was just one solid/steady pull. I just am completely amazed because I wasn't expecting the car to be so strong, today.

Hope this answers your questions. If either of you care to ride in it to see what it feels like, I'll link up with ya' and we'll take a drive ... just let me know when you're in the Lake Mary area and we'll go for a ride so you can determine if you like it or not.

I had a Yank PT4400 in the red car when it was all motor and I didn't like it, way too lose. I sent it back and Mike Senia set it up as a 3800 stall and it was much better, so you must be somewhere in between too lose and just right.

The PT4000 feels real nice to me, Dave ... smoother shift transition and a more constant/consistent pull. PT4400 seems like it's just too much converter for street driving, IMO. I can see why you swapped it out for a 3800. You're running same rearend gears as me (3.73's), right?

No I'm using 3.42s which would make a converter feel slightly looser then w/3.73s.

yeah, I hear ya' ... 3.42's and a P4400 wouldn't be a good street combo. And with the charger, just not a good combo. 3600-3800 should be about as much stall as you would want to go.

With 3.73's, I wouldn't wanna' go any higher than the PT4000 ... already pushing the 'streetablility' factor to the max. Thinking of racing at OSW next Friday, but, may end up in Gainesville for the Gator Nationals to watch you run.

Congrats and good luck at the track! I wish you were sellin' the 3600. I think a stall is next in line for me.

Thanks! A foot was broken on the outer billet cover on the SS3600 ... bolts backed out over time and ruined the converter and flexplate. That's OK, though ... gave me a reason to upgrade to a TCI SFI fexplate and the PT4000. Plus, I went ahead and had the 3-4 clutch pak replaced and tranny inspected. It's like brand new now. Chuck & Vince at FLT, Dave @ Yank., and Billy Boggs the GM master tech working on it were all great ... car went in the shop on Monday and was picked up yesterday at noon.

Took the car out this morning and enjoyed a nice, easy drive ... except for hammering it a few times outside of the city limits. Shift extensions felt great and the power was an unmistakable SOTP feel.

The shifts just sorta' keep you buried in the seat with continuous forward momentum and very little rpm drop. Other than heads/cam, it's by far the most satisfying mod I've done.

You'll deffinately need either MT or Hoosier 315/17 Dragradials to hook and I hope you have a 12bolt or 9" reaend, that being said you should be able to cut some low 1.5 60's.

Rearend is a 35-spline Strange 12-bolt w/ Eaton heavy duty posi option and aluminum support cover option, as well. In lNovember 2005 a 33-spline axle was ordered by Geoff/Mike, however, the rear was torn down to inspect and swap the solid sleeve with a crush collar.

I went down to look at the rearend while it was apart. The Master Tech and I counted 35-splines on the axles ... not sure how that happened, but, it won't be breakin' anytime soon with what little power I'm making.

I've been cutting multiple 1.70's (1.703/1.704/1.707) just stalling it between 1800-2000 rpm on the 275's. Hopefully, I can get a little better 60' on the 275's next Friday. I'm waiting to get some 15x10 drag wheels + 28" tires > 15x4.5/skinnies for the front (while focusing on weight reduction), before I buy new tires.

Looking at Bogart 10D's or the new Greg Weld Pro Lite or Drag Stars or whatever they are calling them ... looking at breaking 10's on motor with the 347 by year's end ... plenty of folks doing it these days. Next month, I may swap in a ported 92mm FAST intake for the non-ported 90mm one I have now ... prob will re-cam from the Comp 224/228 114 *1 to a 230/232 113 *2 X'er cam ... biggest I can go without fly-cutting.

Who is the best place to buy one of these from? I need a converter for my car bad. Dont think I want to go as high as you though, Im thinking I will go with a 3200.

They are soooo darn expensive though. I know they make a worlds difference though. Its like driving a new car.

IF you go with a Yank, I'd buy directly from them ... prices have come down since I bought my last one. I have usually found that buying directly allows you to work with the vendor and often that will resolve things faster and with the manufacturer.

Depends on your driving likes/dislikes, but, the SS3600 was my 2nd SS3600. It's pretty tight and you may find yourself wishing you had gone that route, depending on how tall a rearend gear you have.

Do you think the SS3600 would go well with the 3.23's in my SS? When I first started thinking about a stall I was set on the 3200, but I'm thinking I might wish I went 3600. My car is a daily driver still, 10 miles each way to work (mostly I-95), and whatever errands I have to do on the weekend. I would probably take it to the track once every couple months, maybe a little more.

IMHO, the SS3600 would be great for the GU5 gearing ans still give you some pretty good streetability. If you plan on a gear change up to 3.73's, you might consider going with a SS4000.

Right now gears are stock, I MAY go up to 3.73, but have no plans to do this for now. The car is basicly stock, and Im doing the suspension right now. Next it will be headers, exhaust, tuning, stall, etc. I rarely drive the car its only got 16,000 miles on it currently. But I dont want to loose streetablitity if I want to drive it on a road trip.
