Default Looking to go turbo LQ9

as the title says looking to turbo
I'm doing an LQ9/t56 swap in to a 95 RX7
couple of questions, I tried searching but most things only cover LSx engines

can I use a stock long block safely? will have ls style intake manifold (ls1 or ls6) upgraded injectors and rails, plan on doing the truck manifold turbo manifolds to a Greddy T78 and a Greddy FMIC

do I have to upgrade the valve train right away?

from what I am reading is seems the bottom end of these (LQ9s) are pretty FI friendly so I hope to use that for a while while I can

I'm looking to make ~500whp which I'm sure this should be no problem with a turbo this size and the proper fuel set up.

this turbo was used previously on the 13b rotary and made over 500 to the wheels

also open to any reccomendations as to how to make this work

youll easily hit 500rwhp..im working on a build kind of similar (LQ4 with t76), im hoping for around 600 at the wheels, with stock internals (only motor mods being a mid-sized turbo cam, dual valvesprings, and arp head/rod bolts). I would def upgrade the valvesprings. from what ive heard the valves tend to not seal all the way under high boost with the stock springs. that rx7 is going to be fast as hell with that setup. you will probably need at least 60lb injectors, and a 255lph fuel pump. good luck with your project

valve train can always be upgraded, it only helps

LQ9's will hold 500rwhp like nothing. my stock internal'd LS1 can (made 512rwhp @ 7.5psi)

that turbo might not be sufficient enough for the LQ9 (i.e. the LQ9 puts out way more exhaust than the 13b im sure)

60lbs are a must and i would go a little further than a 255lph for fuel pump

all of this is JMO

Stock longblock will work great, but the turbo, what kind of AR's does that thing have on the turbine/compressor side?

a/r is 1.03 from what i could find online
its a 66mm turbo with an external wastegate, those rotaries will surprise you with the ability to spool big turbos
i've never been a fan of them i am just helping a freind get away from them and over to LSx power, his deal was, that it has to use this turbo, and have over 500whp which i told him would not be a problem AT ALL, i know its capable of well over that, but we would like to keep this thing a streetable weekend fun car

I my self am doing an LS2 s13.5 240sx, and using a walbro 255 in tank, for the stock engine, this will be enough fuel for a turbo v8 as well?

I'm just trying to figure out exactly what valve train upgrades will need to be done to do this, minus the cam, he cant afford that right now..

should be fine, 60 lb injectors and I'd do two 255 in tank pumps. You could keep the valve train upgrades pretty cheap, just 918's & pushrods. You'd be better off with duals & ti. retainers though.

Patriot golds, twin setup with titanium retainers, can't beat the set for the $, get some good pushrods, and twin 255's will get you more than ample fuel for 550-600rwhp on that LQ9 (running a good tune) without destroying it.
