I was going to redo this engine but with the lack of a good local machine shop to do LS stuff I figured it would be best to just have a short block done by someone who has done many (Kurt Urban). Nothing fancy, just a 347 with Howard's rods and Diamond pistons.
Not sure what heads I'm going to use yet..

I dont sit low enough with the stock seats, my helmet is almost touching the t-top glass unless I gangsta lean them all the way back and I dont like that. I would have liked to keep the stock seats but its a safety thing.
Except for the seats it is still the stock interior isnt it?

About 75% done, finished up mounting the seats, seatbelts, wired the gauges up, mounted the shifter etc, its the little stuff like that that sucks up a lot of time.. Also done on the rear part of the car, rear end is centered, hammer work for tire clearance is done, pinion/driveline angle is done, so except for the exhaust its all done back there.
Engine is ready to come out, all I have to do is mount the intercooler, wire up the trans brake and line lock switches, install the trans cooler, remove the rear O2 wiring from the PCM, finish up the brake lines under the hood/bleed the brakes and its done. And put the engine/trans back in of course..
It may seem kind of bass ackwards the way I'm doing it but when I turn the key and it starts it will be ready to go, nothing worse than putting a new engine and blower in first and then having to finish the rest IMO.
Looks easy doesnt it
Actually it is, I think its great that you can pretty much bolt together a 9 second car in your car in a couple months these days. Cool thing is except for the BMR sway bar mounts on the body and a few aluminum bracket that I welded up its a 100% bolt on deal. No lift and no air tools..

I'm actually taking my time on this one, usually the big hold up for me is parts and they are flowing in pretty well so its getting done. Plus the weather is good for building a car, in a couple months its too hot to do anything so best get the hard stuff done now

I just went through and read your entire thread. Very nice build up and thank you for posting all of the details that will help other members out. I have been away from ls1tech for a while but I do remember you building you old car. Good luck with the rest of the build.

If you have never done something like this then its best to just do one thing at a time and dont get in over your head. Plus make sure you have most of the parts before you start taking it apart. Nothing is worse than having a car apart too far and not being able to put it back together in a reasonable amount of time. That and running out of money are two of the reasons cars never get finished.
