This thread is a classic. Just read it again from post one

How much were those MWC rails that the hood is secured to. Those would save me HOURS of headache.

Don't quote me on it but I believe they were $150. Installed in minutes and since the holes are slotted they are super easy to adjust to the contour of the fender.

ill have to call him and ask. is $150 just the bars or does he include the fasteners aswell?

Those look a lot easier than the racecraft rails to get everything installed

Well dropped off the trans at TSI to get checked out and pump put back in after it accidentally came out when I pulled the jw bell off. So thatll be done next week for me to pick up. Lsx ultra bell should be here tomorrow and Eric@MWC will have my trans crossmember next week. So fingers crossed, I should have a trans back in my car next weekend!

I sold my.aluminum driveshaft and going with a cromoly Strange shaft this time around. I want ABSOLUTELY 0 issues this time around and this should do it!

What's the difference in the sbc and lsx bellhousing besides the 12 o'clock hole being there on one and not the other?

What was wrong with the aluminum shaft?

Just curious cause I broke my chromoly shaft and am now going to a aluminium one.

The older sbc bells won't fit with the older rear main covers, hits the top 4 bolts of the cover so either grind the bell to make fit and ruin any type of recert or change rear cover with the gen4 cover where the bolts are recessed into the cover. So it's either spend $100 on a new rear cover and gaskets or sell the old bell and put up $100 more for a lsx specific bell. I'm out $100 either way so might as well get the bell specific for the lsx (plus my OCD wants that 12 o'clock bolt, lol).

As far as shafts go my aluminum one was fine and real light, I just want to go stronger at this point (how you broke one is beyond me, lol). Was it a chang-**** one from somewhere?, u don't see a good shaft breaking unless it was misused or just bad luck?

Got one of my 4 pieces for my drive line in today. LSX slecific ultra bell, machined backside to clear my rear cover bolts and can use my 12 o'clock bolt so ill have all 6 bolts in. It is what it is besides it being brand new, lol.

On the opposite end, i had to drop my trans off to get the front pump back in from it being pulled out from taking off the old bell (sold the sbc one it came with) so i got a call today saying that it done so ill get that back early next week. Eric said my cross member should be done next weekend so just maybe by next weekend ill have a trans back in my car!

I see on the bellhousing now, my rear cover is a 2004 ls1....wonder if I'm gonna have a issue with my sbc ultra bell? I got the sbc one since it is essentially the same. only thing I could find different was the 12 o'clock hole. Even on jegs when you click the sbc bell description the only thing it says is also fits LS. Figure it was like 70 cheaper or something so I might as well save some if I can haha.

As for my drive shaft.....well for w/e reason my stock th400 bell broke at about 100mph mid pull. I think when it cracked and the trans angle went all crazy the drive shaft snapped right in the middle, made a clean cut and trashed my floor. It didn't break because of power.

The new bells come from the factory now with the machined part on the inside to clear the cover bolts so now it "fits ls" but still missing the top bolt. Before the lsx bell nobody ran that top bolt and we're obviously fine so if yours clears I wouldn't spend the money. For me though, I was starting fresh so I just spend the extra couple bucks for the lsx specific bell and now I'm good forever.

As for your shaft, under those circumstances, I don't think any metal would've lasted that ****, lol.

I see now, I guess I over looked the part where that is a used trans you bought off someone that was using it on a sbc etc. So that was a older bell. While that pattern was the same, that bell was made prolly before the Ls existed even...who knows.

At first I thought ive made a big mistake tryn to save $ but looks like I might be alright. Either was jegs lets you return stuff for a year w ith minimal fees

update:

Its been a while since i did anything here but now im just about finished. After getting royally screwed over on my trans i bought i finally got that back a little while ago after it cost another $900 to get fixed. Weird thing is it was a "fresh" trans, only to find out 3rd gear was smoked due to the converter getting pushed into the pump and sending cast shavings through the entire trans, so $900 on top of the "fresh" trans kinda set me back. However now that whole **** fest is over with and now have a 2k rated th400...

After i get that sorted out i buy a BMR th400 crossmember that fit like complete garbage so after grinding the holes bigger and making spacers i got that to fit finally....

Now as of today i picked up my driveshaft. Its a 3.5" chromoly driveshaft with fordged ends and yoke. This is a BEAST of a driveshaft!!

So now that i have all the parts, all i need to do is get the shaft in the car, add fluid and go test. Hopefully in the next few weeks ill get new times on the car. Curious what itll do when i can finally let the car eat and up the boost!

Strange Eng. shaft. Not the cheapest but who wants a cheap driveshaft? lol
Overall im happy i changed from the th350 to the th400, originally the th350 was bought for my cam only lt1 but since then i changed directions so many times that the end result wouldve killed the th350, lol.

Got the car back on the ground and took it out for a spin. The new trans feels great!, and now after feeling a new trans, I think my th350 was on its way out sooner then I was expecting. Only other change I did was lower the rear down about 1 more inch and she's good! Going to put a few hundred street miles on it and then take to track to get new numbers.

So yesterday i was able to get it to a late night dyno session. Like always there were some minor issues, it was blowing throught my converter on the topend (i guess thats what you get for a $600 converter behind a turbo ls car) and my boost controller wasnt working so i had to run off the gate spring only so i topped out at 11.5lbs of boost. Sp at 15* of total timing it made 602 to the rear wheels. SO now it looks like ill be giving PTC a call to get a nice tight converter to hold the damn power and get a Leash controller so we can ramp in more boost. All in all im happy with 602hp on low boost, blowing through the converter and through a th400 and a 9", lol.
