really no such thing as to much power for the street now with all the new tuning possibilities.really it all up to what you feel comfortable with on the street and whether your pocket can handle the upkeep

just obey all street laws and youll be fine. keep your foot out of it and you shouldnt have a problem, unless the car has a tendency to stall, then its not set up for street or if it over heats

You could just get a boost controller and have a low boost setting for the street and a high boost setting for the strip.

If I had to give a number though I would say between 600 - 700 rwhp is about all you could really utilize on the street. Just my opinion though.

I'm shooting for an ultimate goal of 650ish RWHP because what Turbo 6.0 said appears to be everyone's opinion on the matter.

our cars stock have more then enough power to break any speed limits anywhere in a matter of a few seconds... anything after that is too much power, but doesnt mean it isnt fun!! lol. the amount of power kind of depends on how much discipline you have. if you have 1000rwhp and have a hard time keeping your foot out of it, your not going to have you car for long because it will be impounded... lol good luck with the build. 650hp will be no challenge with a 408!

I agree. If you have a lead foot, then even 400 rwhp can get you into trouble in a hurry.

450RWP on the street is a blast. More than enough power to get you in trouble.

How much power you can use on the street is going to depend on your suspension set up and how well the car hooks. I.E I have 1 buddy with a 650ish RWHP S10 that almost dead hooks on the street but another buddy with a mid 700 RWHP truck that shreds the tires on more than a few lbs boost initially. Once its rolling, thats a different story... Different suspension than you obviously but just as an examlple.

Suspension setup and wheel/tire combination is a huge factory for useing big power on the street. Streetability of the engine however is a tune and preplan issue. Boosted engines are usually much more streetable than big hp N/A engines.

How much useable power you will be able to run is going to depend on lots of different things. Have you done anything to the car before this new engine, or are you jumping in with both feet?

if you are building a street car don't go with high CR (you will need high octane fuel to prevent knock or meth) i would go with 8.5:1 CR. good luck

if you can break the tires loose at 300 mph in 6th gear then it has too much power.

Disagree 9.0 is fine and 9.5 is fine with alc injection. Thats one advantage of the turbos ,easy to get things like progressive boost controllers by rpm or gear like my eboost2. But can tell you that at the approximately 650 rwhp that am at now with low boost so far the car is plenty crazy and can easily kill you or others if you don't respect it. And for sure you need tires ,nittos do a pretty good job but at a certain point its time for et street radials or similar.
I am looking into an add on traction system for my 99 as it came with no factory traction control. Factory control is pretty useless but better than nothing. Or say if someone is driving the car that shouldn't be..wifey..buddy..

^^ i disagree with you. With 8.5 CR he will be able to run more boost on pump gas and that's the whole thing with street cars. being able to make crazy hp numbers on pump gas. and meth isn't that cheap. i guess it is personal preference, i like to have more room for error then other people.

+1 you get more hp out of more boost then you do with a higher cr and lower boost

No it doesn't, just needs more tire.

Again, as everyone else has said, if you can keep the engine happy with good tuning, there really is no limit to streetable power, especially with an automatic. Sticks can get nasty with the clutches you have to run, but under 1000-1100 HP, a good twin disk can negate even that.

I'm shooting for ~600 RWHP in my setup (in a 2700 lbs car), and fully expect to get ~25-27 mpg on the highway while I'm at it (with 4.10 gears and a T56). With the possible exception of needing a controller for my A1000, there is nothing stopping me from driving across the country in the car. Adding 200-300 more RWHP with a forged motor wouldn't change anything either.

I agree with you. thats why I went with 8.6:1 CR. im at 15psi on 93oct, no meth & no worries. When I know im going to be out racing ill probably throw some 115 turbo blue in the tank for backup. I making a little over 600 in 2nd gear and its nuts. I have no idea how people handle 700+ on the street. I have to be doing 55+ to be able to jump on it and get planted in the seat. Any slower than that, have fun trying to keep it on the road.

mm i forgot all about a heavy clutch. That would definetly be a deal breaker for me(limiting how much hp i go for) if the clutch was to harsh for daily driving.

Get a good dual disk and it won't be a problem
