Default Unrealistic?

Okay, so I plan on being turbocharged sometime round fall, and was wondering something. I'm probably going to be using 14-15 psi, so if I plan on using forged internals could I get away with a 10:1 CR, or would that be mass detonation waiting to happen?

forged internals wont prevent against knock, or detonation, they just handle it much better. You would be better off around 9:1, otherwise you're timing is going to be just about nothing.

That's what I needed to know. Thanks.

no problem, but there are ways to run that kind of boost, it is just safer with lower CR. You could get 14-15 lbs with race gas and/or meth injection.

While I'm on the topic of FI, what kind of cam should I use? I read the cam section in the Turbo FAQ, but it was really confusing. I am looking at getting an STS kit, so I'll still have long tubes and a 3" Y-pipe. Is that enough of a reason to get more exhaust duration?

you would spool up quicker with your stock manifolds than you would with those headers. oh, and just a personal opinion, but STS is not the way to go.

What would you recommend? Just remember that I'm installing this myself, so APS is out =P

Buy a procharger. Easy install, more potential.

A D1SC kit can support nearly 800 RWHP. I have yet to see an actual STS kit touch that. There are a few rear mount guys going fast, but none of them are running a true STS bolt on kit.

You can swap blowers on the ati kit in minutes also.

It doesn't. Don't go with a trash STS kit, for the same price you could get a front mount kit from Josh at KYTP.

So you think an STS kit has more potential or as much potential as an ATI kit? Were you raised under power lines?

you didn't read his full post. Everyone on this site knows that a bolt on STS kit wouldn't touch 650rwhp without some kind of modification.

I ditched my STS kit and bought KYTP's hot and cold side and a TC78. Along with a speedinc 370 and I swapped from a T56 to a th400. But that was a VERY expensive swap
