Default Can i make only 5psi with a 8.702psi wastegat spring?

I bought a used STS turbo kit and it has a TIAL 38mm wastegate with an 8.702 pis spring in it....

Is it possible for me to run 5psi boost with this spring in the wastegate?
About what PSI will it make?

Thanks for helping out a Boost NEWBIE!

you can only go UP from the base pressure you cannot technically go lower.

if you put it on and it reads lower

you either have a large pressure drop due to large pipes/long pipes/ huge intercooler / bad core design on intercooler

so basically the wastegate spring pessure is the lowest pressure you can run..... and if I take the spring out i will technically make no boost.....

Or don't run a line to the gate! LOL don't try that.! But yeah gate spring is minimum .Boost controller only let you run higher. And usually you can go double the spring. So 7 pound spring about 14psi.

on a rear mount, if the wastegate reference is (hose) conected at the turbo outlet/ compressor houseing, the boost pressure at the manifold will be considerably lower then spring rateing due to pressure lose through intake pipes esp if you run an intercooler as well.

So an 8psi spring may only see 5 psi at the manifold.

If the wasegate boost referance hose was conected at manifold you would see full spring rating 8 psi at manfold.

Agreed, reference it at the turbo and you may see close to the number you want.
