That would be corect. They do get to start from a lower roll.
form a 60 mph, or maybe ven a 70 mph a 6spd. car could brake boost the hell out of it, and would only have to do one gear shift to finish the race.. say 60 to 150mph or so... This would eliminate a lot of the advantage on the auto car from having WOT shifts.

Over 900rwhp here backed by a Rockland Standard Gear "Viper" T56.

Bottom line if drag racing is what your into I would suggest auto over manual no questions. I've had my car at the strip one time and it was very, VERY hard to get any kind of traction with D/R's and mild suspension. I know if the car was setup right though I could probably pull some pretty impressive e.t.'s.

But for the street i'll take a 6-speed any day. I've ran several stalled-auto cars including a 9xxrwhp Supra, 850rwhp horsepower TT C5 w/ built 4L80 and a 9xxrwhp Lexus SC300 w/ a TT 2JZ and built 4-speed just to name a few, and I had no problem taking those guys on the highway. 6-speed makes more power/torque and pulls VERY hard up top.

Anyone running a built 4L80E with a beefed-up lockup clutch should be running locked up at WOT at all speeds over ~40-60 (depends on your traction), except when braking (unlocks). The lockup really narrows the power loss between an unlocked auto and a manual. As far as pulling on top, that's all a matter of gearing. With that much power you're starting to see more people running 3.23 - 2.95 gearing, which give you a pretty wicked top end in OD.

I wonder how OD would stand to that much power? I'm scared to let mine go into it...

I ran my old 96 ss on the highway and standing mile with g-force 1st through 4th and stock overdrives. (850rwhp, 199mph in the mile)

Never had a problem with 5th gear but maybe I was lucky.

5th gear? Which tranny? T-56 I assume? I'm just wondering if my 4L60E could take it.

With a 4l60e, doubtful. I would only trust overdrive in a 4l80e at that much hp even then who knows. Blew my 3rd built 4l60e quick doing overdrive runs with only 500rwhp at the time, hence why I went with a 4l80e.

The last trans died after hiting the limiter in OD. Started slipping on the way home and half way there it went all the way.

its not one hell of a ride when that happens. Depending on the speed, road, and if you start going sideways its a let me clean out my pants ride.
