Ok first of all sorry for renuwing this older tread but I just read it all and got lots of good info. I'm about to start ordering all my stuff. Looking for 600whp. And this will be my mode and will. Reach 600. Low milage 03 5.7, 317 heads, z06 cam, ls6 intake manifold, mp t70, arp rod and head bolts, spec stage 1 clutch, t56. Now you think this will be a good set up

Guys what about the L33 it is a 5.3 came in 05-07 short bed Silverado extened cab. They come with 799 heads (same as the 243 ZO6 heads). It is all aluminum and can be had for short $ I paid $750.00 with 29K miles with everything even the TCA and the computer. Stock is 320HP
Lighter and better heads. I am building a kit car and will be using this....now maybe with a turbo.

I got it from LKQ on ebay complete for $500. about 4 years ago. Yes I put 317 heads on it, ported them and also put a new oil pump in, and swapped cams. Never touched the rod bolts, bearings or any of the rotating assembly. I think it is a 2000.
I bought it as a mock up block and to practice tuning on. I didnt expect it last more than a month. But its proven to be very strong and reliable.
Im building a 421 for my Nova now and am putting this 5.3 as is into my TransAm and going to beat it some more. Its running 15psi + a 50 shot of spray, timing i think is around 18 and AFRs are 11.4-11.6:1 I havnt touched the tune in 3 years. Ive never tried to get anything more out of it, as I kind of suspect it is at its limits and anymore would probably be the end of it.
