Default Crankshaft Drilling Question.....

I am installing a 6.0 in my car and am transferring a Vortech blower setup to it. Question is.......what have you guys used in the past to drill the crank in order to put on your ATI balancers? There is a dow pin that goes all the way through the crank, and being it is a hardened piece of steel was wondering what you guys suggest?

ATI sells the fixture kit for doing this.

Don't have time to order a kit and have to wait for delivery.....anyone locally sell these?

Is the engine in the car ?

A new drill bit will cut though the crank easily

No, the engine is out right now.....we were just a bit nervous about drilling into the crank and hurting something. The LS1 was already drilled by another guy that originally put the blower in for me, but is not responding to my question on how he did it exactly.

I have the ATI pin kit is how I did it Matt.

The standard crank is very easy to drill. A normal HSS drill bit will do it.

If its a forged crank, an HSS bit wont even make a mark.

Buy a Cobalt drill bit, and it will drill into it very easily. ( it may be a percentage of cobalt, not actually 100% cobalt )
