Default What do you all think of this parts list?

Little background on the car: got it from a friend of mine that no longer had the time or money to work on the car. Had a blown transmission and sat for several years. Supposedly has a built rotating assembly in the LQ9. Has the stock 98 heads, stock 98 cam, stock drivetrain except for the 3.73 gears. Not sure on the compression. Asked him and he said its supposed to have 8.5:1. Finally got it running pretty good except for the second transmission is now having some problems. Figured this would be a great time to start creating a build sheet for it.

Current setup is in my sig: 6.0L LQ9 iron block, forged rotating assembly, 408cid, stock 98 heads () with stock valvetrain, LS6 intake w/ stock TB and 60# injectors, TTi T76 street kit.

Goals for the car (eventually) would be to have a nice streetable 650 - 700 HP with about 10 - 15 pounds of boost. This is not a daily driver...more or less a weekend warrior.

New Build:
  • Freshen up short block (not sure about what pistons are in it)
  • Patriot Stage III LQ9 heads w/ Dual Valve Springs (72cc, Intake Valve: 2.08" Exhaust Valve: 1.60" )
  • EPP FI Cam (Dur @ .050 232 int 240 exh Lift: .595 int .608 exh Lobe Sep 115.0)
  • Double roller timing chain
  • New oil pump
  • Hardened pushrods
  • Keep the LS6 intake
  • Home port the throttle body
  • PT88 turbo A/R .96 or GT-91
  • C6 manifolds (to keep AC) custom turbo kit
  • Tail 46mm Wastegate
  • Tail 50mm Blowoff Valve
  • BMR Turbo K-member
  • Build up 4l60e
  • 3400 Stall
  • SFI approved flexplate
  • 9-inch w/ 3.55 gears
  • 3.5" PST Driveshaft

So is that a good start? Just wanted to make sure that I've got a good list of matched parts. Still new to the turbo world. Thinking I might have to get bigger injectors once I turn the boost up, and possibly ditch the racetronixs fuel system with some external pumps. What do you all think?

I think thats a nice shopping list...

If I were you I would at least consider building a 4L80 over the 60 at those power levels...

The only think that holds me back from getting a 4l80 is that I read some where that they cannot work with the 98 PCMs. Not sure if that is true or not.

Hmm I hadn't heard that yet, but it wouldn't surprise me..

Usually there is a different OS available for 98 stuff... But I don't know.

I wish I had welding skills too...

If the money is right, I'll probably pick up a welder and start practicing for my build. More than likely I'm going to take most of my pieces that need welding to a local shop.

Also, the 98 PCM is limited to a 2 bar setup.

Correct. I'm running a 2 BAR Speed Density tune currently. I don't plan on pushing the system past 15 psi so I should be okay with the 98 PCM.

How do you like that EPP cam? What head gaskets do you run too?

Great combo looks like. Though a GT91 on a 408 at 15PSI though is more like 1000+hp not 700. At 14.7psi you should effectively double the power the motor makes N/A.

Just got your e-mail. Thanks for the information. I had no idea that a GT-91 at 15 psi would be at 1K HP. Is that still on a T4 frame, or is it a T6? Trying to figure out how much room I'll need to make up front for the turbo.

Its a T6, but its a mid-frame so fairly small is comparison to a full T6 frame unit.

While I have the heads off, should I go ahead and get some new lifters too? What would be good ones for the EPP cam?

Thanks again everyone for there suggestions.

The best thing to do here is to re-wire the car to a 99+ engine harness, then you have 3 bar and ability to run a 4l80e.

So is it true a 98 PCM won't work with a 4l80e? I read it someone in a thread, and now I can't seem to find it.
