Wow. Really? That's nothing. With my TH400, 3.46 gears, and 26" tires I do 3000rpm at 60, lol. I still cruise it at 80-85 on the AZ highways though. 4000rpm and 20mpg. I may go to a 3.07 gear when the turbo motor gets finished.

LOL... this is the only other option ... is anyone stuffing 6060 parts into the t56 case? or are the cases plug and play swap?

Here is a link to a downloadable zip file with a gear calculator in it. Input your rear gears and tire size for top speed in each gear and other stuff. You can even change the transmission gear ratios for different tranny's. Like TH400 or a glide. Also with an auto remember there is some slip, so take that into account for what is listed for top speeds.

I had a bone stock 6 speed with the mcleod twin disc for over 6-8 months without problems.I was making 922rwhp and 900rwtq. I was planning on switching out to another 6 speed with my new setup in the future, but maybe not ?

Liberty has a transmission that'll hold anything you can throw at it and more. Mike Moran ran 5.97 with a Liberty equalizer. Liberty or Jerico have just what you need when you are ready to get serious about putting all that torque to the track.

Good luck, Tom

4L80E heavy and a little pricey but you have a nice street car.

Around 3K RPM.

If you street drive it alot I would look at the 4L80, for the track a PG all the way..

With all the money you spent on t56 transmissions/clutches you could have had a killer 4L80E setup. This point has been beaten to death on numerous occasions, but I'll restate the obvious. . . 4L80E all the way!

Not that it helps...but my T56 has been faultless.

But an auto probably would be better with your setup. I just dont want an auto...until my legs stop working.

Another vote for the 4L80E if you can swing it. Make sure to get it with a transbrake. That's the funnest part of the auto. You'll never miss that stick shift.

Default Lenco

Just my two cents.....my 1969 Camaro 540 BBC with a BDS 8-71 made just under 1100 HP at the wheels. After two years of fixing broken manual transmissions parts, I went with a Powerglide. While it never broke, I hated it. We went through three converters before we found the best for launch...but it was sloppy on the street. Mileage went out the window, always slipping and we had to run coolers. I finally ponied up the $$ and bought a used Lenco CS1.....the best choice I ever made. Total control of launch RPM,impossible to miss a shift and bulletproof. If there was any downside, I wish I would have purchased the CS3 version due to less weight, dimensionally smaller and less HP loss. They are great on the street...

Tiago, So sorry to hear about the latest drivetrain fatality
It's no fun having to constantly address expensive breakage on an otherwise amazing car. I broke all the teeth off second gear in my car back when I was Nitrous only and decided to go with the Turbo350. I thought about the virtues of the TH350 vs TH400 and picked the TH350 based on:
  1. Less weight than a TH400
  2. Less expensive than a TH400
  3. I could use my stock driveshaft w/o modifications
  4. I could use stock A4 cross member
  5. A friend with a 200 shot N2O, built 454 wheelstanding Nova ran a TH350 with a trans brake and it never broke ever.
  6. A TH350 is more efficient than a TH400(less frictional/drivetrain loss)
  7. The TH350 first 2 gear ratios are better for the strip than the TH400
_____I bought one outright from a Katy Transmission shop for $650, no core required. Put a Vigi 2800 in front of it and instantly went to 1.60 sixty foots. This was all with the stock 3.42 Ten bolt rear. Admittedly, going 3K rpm on the Freeway driving from/to Sealy from Austin at the time, wasn't my favorite part of the drag racing season but at least I didn't get any speeding tickets! Lol..

_____The car went a best of 11.1 at 121 with the 100 shot. I would just idle at the double stage lights and stomp the gas on the last Yellow light. It was a manual valve body so you still had some semblance of 'driving' the car.

_____I had the tranny rebuilt at Century Transmissions in Richmond, TX to take the Turbo but due to a horrendous engine rebuilding experience at the old HPE, I never got a chance to run that tranny. A bud in the Katy area has the TH350 on a pallet in his garage, still wrapped in plastic. I think it's built to take 8xx HP so it's probably not ready for "Tiago Power".

_____Driving a TH350 or TH400 is really not bad in Houston Traffic. I actually liked it a lot better than the T56 when daily driving in Houston (Sugarland area) and Austin when I lived there. I used the Th350 for 4 years. I don't know if the LS1 Fbodies are setup the same way but I was able to get a VSS signal by piggybacking the VSS connector wires onto the drivers side front wheel ABS connector. I just reflashed the PCM to think I had a gear ratio of 2.85 to get the right Speedometer readings. I think people have came up with more elegant electronics for the TH400 VSS signal now.

___ If you get the Auto, I can't wait to hear about the performance! I bet it's going to fly!

Interesting thread because I'm wanting to go the other direction.

I'm running a billet-sprag TH350 that's been flawless behind ~930 fwhp. However, I'm bored with the car and want to swap to a T56. Wonder if we could arrange a trade...
