They work great until they fail and you overboost and blow your motor.

just thinkin out loud here guys but what about a hobs switch that kills the motor when it hits XX amount of boost. set if to 18 if you run 15 or something like that just a thought. ( by no means am i sayin run a cheap wastegate and use this to cover your *** im just thinkin out loud)

a cheap wastegate belongs in the trash, not on your turbo setup. a cheap
A2A intercooler might be ineffecient but its not going to directly pop your engine if it fails. a cheap wastegate, well at least you might get to see how much boost it takes before a piston/ con rod/ bearing wipe out the whole show

Just keep an eye out in the for sale section and ebay for quality parts. I picked up two brand new JGS 50mm wastegates for $225 from ebay.

why not try it....set your fuel and ignition to 0 in your tune just above the max boost level you want to reach....if it overboosts it wont roast the motor

I run a 44 mm jgs on a 76 trim turbo. I think the bigger the turbo and the amount of boost you will need a huge gate. But a 38 mm tial will work just fine, I ran a tial on my 76 at 7 psi with no issue. I chang over to the jgs because it was smaller in size.

a 38mm gate will not hold 6-10 psi on a 5.7 unless the A/R is overly huge

lower boost levels require bypassing more exhaust around the turbine to keep it slowed down. that is why you need a bigger gate to maintain lower boost levels.
