Question What valve spring height setting should I have?

Okay so I am interested in getting the thunder racing blower cam with my STS turbo. I was going to get some dual valve springs and I was told that I needed to get the proper height set on them. Mods are in my sig could anyone tell me how they should be set so I don't have to worry about valve float because all the places around me are rip-off (btw I am not in TX right now). Thanks for the help. BTW I plan on getting a bigger turbo probably a 76.

any help or is this in the wrong section and I didn't put enough info on it? I just want to make sure I don't get coil bind. The springs are going to be Patriot dual golds with the .650 max lift and the cam specs are "TR Blower" - 214/230 .601/.579 117 LSA. again I have no performance shops here i trust (I ended up paying $4000+ for a engine swap a $1000 was for looking for parts WTF) so i am doing it by myself.

From the looks of it, you'll have about .050" before coil bind at 1.8" install height and stock 135 lb seat pressure. If you want better seat pressure then I think another spring like http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=997&catid=48 would work nice give you good closed (about 170 lbs at 1.8") and open pressures (use a good lifter), compared to the golds. They are twice the price but are nice springs...

The way this works is you measure your installed valve height. Take your springs of choice and put them in a spring compressor and measure their height at coil bind, remove the amount of actual lift (the best way is with a solid lifter and a dial indicator on the rocker or retainer to prove the rocker is exactly the advertised ratio). If you have a installed height of 1.8", a coil bind height of 1.1" (giving you a total of .700 difference) and an actual measured intake valve opening of .600" then you can decide how much cushion you want from coil bind and put shims in to compress the springs the amount you desire. If you want .050" from coil bind, then you would put .050" shims under the intake valve seats. You can always take the heads by a good shop and have them do it for you if you have them off. Otherwise, try asking the shop you're buying the springs from to run them down to coil bind in a compressor and give you the #'s. Take your measurements at home and and go to a machine shop and get the needed shims.

I bought the LS7 Lifters everything else is stock specs. Now I know I have to be sure to measure for coil bind before I install but the shims seem like a safety measure for just incase but if I have springs that are well above what it would take for the cam to cause coil bind I'm sure it's okay to leave out that step. Not that I would because I would be one easy step included in the process. I was just wondering if it was needed if coil bind was .100 away with the stock valves
